On 4 January 2023, YouTube channel Mudassar Online posted a video claiming that Pakistani preacher Maulana Tariq Jamil had passed away. The clip, archived here, is titled as follows:

“افسوس ناک خبر مولانا طارق جمیل اچانک کے انتقال کر گئے کینیڈا سے ڈاکٹروں نے خبر کی تصدیق کردی [Sad news, Maulana Tariq Jamil has died suddenly. Doctors from Canada confirmed the news]”

Fact or Fiction?

We used YouTube Data Viewer — a tool created by Amnesty International’s Citizen Evidence Lab — to determine the time Mudassar Online posted the video and found it to be 8:14 AM on 4 January 2023.

Soch Fact Check did not find any credible reports on any news outlet or the social media accounts of Tariq Jamil or his son, Maulana Yousaf Jamil, either.

Soch Fact Check found that the clip has gained close to 1,800 views as of writing time. We also found a post shared here on Facebook on 1 January 2023.

Conclusion: Maulana Tariq Jamil has not died. There is no credible evidence or news report suggesting the same and his family have not made any public statements about this.
