About Us

Soch Fact Check is a non-partisan organisation dedicated to sorting fact from fiction. False news has the potential to mislead citizens, sway elections, and endanger lives. Our goal is to stop the spread of misinformation and disinformation by promoting accuracy in media and public discourse. We are Pakistan's only local signatory to the International Fact-Checking Network's Code of Principles, as well as Meta's only local Third-Party Fact-Checking partner.

Soch Fact Check is a sister organisation of Soch Videos and Soch Media.

Meet our team

Zainab Husain
Managing Editor

Zainab Husain is the co-founder and managing editor of Soch Fact Check. Since founding the organisation in 2020, she has led a team of fact-checkers, researchers, and journalists, and personally spearheaded the dual processes that made Soch Fact Check both Pakistan's only local IFCN signatory and Pakistan's only local member of Meta's Third-Party Fact-Checking program. Zainab has a background in documentary journalism, focusing on gender justice, climate, and tech. Her documentary work on survivors of sexual assault contributed directly to changes in national legislation. She also works as a media consultant, advising on information integrity and editorial strategy in high-risk contexts.

Sarah Fariduddin
Associate Editor

Sarah Fariduddin is an Associate Editor at Soch Fact Check with professional experience across journalism and education. She holds a BS in Media Studies from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi. She began her journalism career at Herald Magazine, Dawn, in 2013. Before joining Soch, Sarah spent several years in education, teaching Media Studies, English, and Sociology at leading schools in Karachi and Lahore.

Haseem uz Zaman
Senior Fact Checker

Haseem uz Zaman is a senior fact-checker and trainer at Soch Fact Check. Previously associated with Geo News, they have extensive news-building and editorial experience and divide their time between reading, photography, and activism. Their areas of interest include gender, minority rights, intersectionality, class and oppression, and protests.

Arhum Kammran Shah
Fact Checker

Arhum Kammran Shah is a junior fact-checker at Soch Fact Check. He holds a BS in Political Science from the University of Management and Technology, Lahore, where his undergraduate thesis examined the impact of Pakistan’s blasphemy laws on marginalised communities in Youhanabad. He previously contributed to research at the Centre for Economic Research in Pakistan, the National Institute of Public Policy, and Aahung-supported research projects. His areas of interest include misinformation, governance, law and society, minority rights, and public policy.

Mahnoor Tariq
Fact Checker

Mahnoor Tariq is a fact-checker and associate producer at Soch Fact Check. She has an MA in Mass Communication from Karachi University. While her expertise lies with video production, she has also worked with iVerify, UNDP and CEJ-IBA’s collaborative fact-checking initiative. Her areas of interest include city governance, health and gender violence.

Fatemah Omar Khan
Fact Checker

Fatemah Omar Khan is a junior fact-checker at Soch Fact Check. She previously worked at Soch Videos as an Associate Producer and as a legal associate at MCA Law Associates. She has an undergraduate degree in Law from Lancaster University and a her Masters in Conflict, Security and Development from Sussex University.

Sofyan Sultan

Sofyan Sultan studied at Brown University, SOAS, and University College London. He is the Co-founder of Soch and director of Green & White (Private) Limited.

Arafat Mazhar

Arafat Mazhar is the Co-Founder of Soch and he sits on the advisory board. He is currently serving as a director at Engage and Shehri Pakistan.
