Video does not show Shah Rukh Khan at 2022 FIFA World Cup

Viral clip is actually from 2018 and unrelated to the World Cup

By

Claim: A video shows Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan receiving a “grand welcome” at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Fact: The video is more than four years old when Shah Rukh Khan made an appearance at the inauguration ceremony of Indian chain Kalyan Jewellers’ outlet in Doha, Qatar.

On 19 December 2022, Facebook user Dilshad Azmi posted a video showing Shah Rukh Khan with the claim that the Bollywood star made a “grand” entrance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The following caption was posted with the video:

Grand welcome shahrukh Khan in Qatar FIFA world cup #FIFAWorldCup

The clip shows the actor arriving at the location in a convoy of SUVs amid strict security, with fans waving at him, before he steps out, waves to his admirers, and goes on to the stage.

Fact or Fiction?

After reviewing the video, Soch Fact Check found a watermark bearing the text, “qbiz,” superimposed on the footage.

We then input the search term “qbiz shah rukh khan entry” on Google and were led to this video posted by the YouTube channel, Qbiz Events. The clip titled, “Grand Entry Of Shah Rukh Khan ( SRK ) At Kalyan Jewellers Opening In Doha – Qatar – Qbiz Events,” was posted on 20 May 2018.

The caption of the video contains the following text:

Shah Rukh Khan’s Grand Entry For Kalyan Jewellers Opening In Doha – Qatar | #SRK | Kalyan Jewellers l Celebrating Qatar l  Qbiz Events.

Shah Rukh Khan arrived on stage to the sound of hundreds of fans screaming and chanting his name as he flew into Doha for a brief visit for the inauguration of the new Kalyan Jewellers outlet in Doha-Qatar.

Soch Fact Check compared screenshots from the two videos and found them to be the same. We conclude that the claim the video in question shows Shah Rukh Khan receiving a “grand welcome” at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is misleading as the clip is over four years old.
