No, 75 rupee banknote didn’t omit quote of earning an honest living

False claim about the new note went viral on social media

By

Claim: Social media posts claim that the State Bank’s recently introduced commemorative 75 rupee note removed a quote about the significance of earning an honest living.

Fact: The claim is false. The quote is printed on all currency notes and is also included in the commemorative 75 rupee note issued to celebrate Pakistan’s diamond anniversary.

On 13 October 2022, a Twitter post shared an image of both sides of Pakistan’s new 75 rupee banknote. The caption, translated into English, reads, “On the 75 rupee note, the statement ‘Earning an honest life amounts to worship’ has been removed. Maybe the State Bank has found out that it is very difficult to earn halal in Pakistan now. People should not be blamed unnecessarily.”

Fact or Fiction?

When the claim circulated online, some social media users commented that they thought the claim was accurate, while others responded by poking fun at the Pakistani government.

However, the claim is not true. The backside of the new 75 rupee notes also bears the following quotation: “Earning an honest living equates to worship.”

The quote can be seen in the video posted by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on their verified Twitter account on 30 September 2022.

SBP also issued an explainer about the features of the new banknote in which all parts of the banknote are explained and pointed out.

It shows the quote in question printed on the back of the note, as highlighted in red.

“Hasool-e- Rizq-e-Halal Ebadat hai” highlight in the round circle

The same calligraphic inscription can be seen in the photographs of the banknotes shared with false claim.

This is not the first time a claim about the Rs 75 commemorative banknote is made. Soch Fact Check previously debunked a claim about the design of the banknote.

Virality

Soch Fact Check conducted a CrowdTangle analysis for the 30-day period from 1 to 30 October using the following search term:

  • 75 روپے والے نئے نوٹ پر “رزق حلال عین عبادت ہے” والی عبارت غائب

The results showed that the search term garnered 1,500 interactions across eight public posts on Facebook. It can be found here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

On Twitter, the false claim can be found here, here, and here.

Conclusion: The new commemorative banknote of Rs 75 has the quotation of “Hasool-e- Rizq-e-Halal Ebadat hai; posts claiming otherwise are false.
