Claim: A video shows a man being dragged by his beard and violently assailed in Punjab.

Fact: The viral video originates from Manikganj in Bangladesh. Multiple news reports on the incident from Bangladeshi outlets identified the attacker and stated that he was arrested.

A video circulated among Pakistani users on social media platforms with the caption: 

“مریم نواز کو جگانے میں میری مدد کرے🚨

یہ ریاست پاکستان ہے یہاں جگہ جگہ چھوٹے بڑے فرعون ہے ،جس کے پاس جتنی طاقت ہے وہ اس کے مطابق فرعون بنتا ہے !!

اس بے غیرت شخص کی فوری گرفتاری ہونی چاہیے تنازعہ چاہے کوئی بھی ہو لیکن سنت رسول داڑھی کی اس قدر توہین ؟”

[Translation: Help me wake up Maryam Nawaz🚨

This is the state of Pakistan, where there are small and big Pharaohs everywhere, each becoming a Pharaoh according to the power they hold!!

This shameless person should be arrested immediately, no matter what the dispute is, but such an insult to the Sunnah of the Prophet’s beard?]

Some users shared the video, writing, “اس بے شرم شخص کی فوری گرفتاری ہونی چاہیے تنازعہ چاہے کوئی بھی ہو لیکن سنت رسول داڑھی کی اس قدر توہین ؟”

[Translation: This shameless person should be arrested immediately, no matter what the controversy, but such an insult to the beard, which is the Holy Prophet’s Sunnah?]

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check suspected the claim as the language being spoken by the two men in the video did not sound indigenous to Punjab or Pakistan. Therefore, we reverse-searched keyframes of the viral video and found that it was first shared on 24 June 2025 by BMtv Live, a news outlet based in Bangladesh. The description of the video read: 

“A video of a businessman being dragged by his beard and beaten in Manikganj has gone viral. The incident took place on the night of June 23 in the Ghior bus stand area of Manikganj. The accused is the brother of an influential BNP leader. He is also involved in BNP politics.”

We searched for the incident to gather more context about it. According to a 27 June news report by Jamuna TV, a Bangladeshi news outlet, “the police arrested Nasim Bhuiyan, accused of harassing and beating a businessman by holding his beard in Manikganj. He was arrested in a raid in the Nischintapur area of ​​the Ashulia police station in Savar on 27 June. Police said that on June 23, Nasim harassed and beat the owner of Manik Computer and Training Center by holding his beard in the Ghior bus stand area over a trivial incident. The victim filed a complaint with the police station regarding the incident.”
