Claim: A video shows a funeral procession of protestors killed during firing in Tirah valley.
Fact: The claim is false as the video first appeared online in June 2025, weeks before the Tirah valley firing.
A video has been circulating widely online with the caption, “ہ غزہ نہیں بلکہ خیبر پختونخواہ کی وادی تیراہ کے مناظر ہیں فائرنگ سے شہید ہونے والے لوگ 💔”
[Translation: This is not Gaza, but the Tirah Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The people shown were martyred in the shooting. 💔]
It shows a funeral procession with people carrying coffins, accompanied by background music instead of the original audio.
Protesters fired upon in the Tirah valley
On 27 July, protesters gathered outside the Frontier Corps (FC) compound where gunfire broke out as the crowd approached the gates, resulting in at least seven deaths and several injuries.
Earlier this week, two children lost their lives after a mortar shell struck Raghzai village in Tank district. In response, grieving families and residents staged a protest by blocking the Tank-South Waziristan Road, demanding swift identification and accountability for those responsible. According to Sohail Afridi, Special Assistant for KP Communications and Works, the protest outside the FC compound was sparked by a similar incident the day before, in which a young girl was killed when a mortar hit a house.
Afridi stated that there were conflicting claims about who opened fire; some district officials blamed militants from the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referring to them as Fitna-al-Khawarij, while some protesters alleged that security forces at the gate fired at them.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack by the TTP and directed immediate medical assistance for the injured. He affirmed that terrorist actions would not weaken national resolve.
Following the incident, a jirga was held between civil and military officials, local elders, and Security Forces Commandant Brigadier Muhammad Qasim. The jirga, which alleged that the gunfire was carried out by security forces, strongly condemned the violence. They reaffirmed the people’s constitutional and democratic right to peaceful protest and emphasised that security forces have no right to fire on demonstrators. The commandant assured them of his full support in meeting their legitimate demands.
Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check first reverse-searched keyframes of the video and found that it was shared on TikTok as early as 24 June 2025. It was captioned:
“آج تور غر کے تین معصوم بچوں کے لا.شوں کی بجائے چند ٹکڑوں کا جنازہ اُٹھایا جائے گا جبکہ چوتھا جو ش.ہید ہے اس کی کوئی نشانی نہیں مل رہی ہے اس کا غائبانہ نماز جنازہ ادا کیا جائے گا۔ 😭💔”
[Translation: Today, instead of complete bodies, the funeral of a few remains of three innocent children from Torghar will be held, while the fourth, who is martyred, has not been found at all. His funeral prayer in absentia will be offered. 😭💔]
The same video was also shared on Facebook in June, with the caption:
“یہ ایران اسرائیل جنگ میں نہیں بلکہ
اسلامہ جمہوریہ پاکستان نے بے بس پشتونوں پر حملے کرکے شہید کئے ہیں
شمالی وزیرستان سپلگہ میں ریاستی ریاستی دہشتگردی نے کئ جانیں لے لی”
[Translation: This is not from the Iran Israel war but the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has attacked helpless Pashtuns and martyred them. State terrorism in North Waziristan, Sapalga, has claimed many lives.]
We searched for news reports from June 2025, using the terms “Torghar” and “Waziristan”, and found a news report from 22 June by The News titled “Four killed in Kurram mortar shell hit.” According to the report, a mortar shell fired from an unknown direction exploded in Torghar resulting in four casualties.
“According to police sources, some spectators were enjoying a game played by youngsters in Torghar area of central Kurram when the mortar shell exploded with a bang. As a result, Hamid, Riaz, Ayaz and Irfan were killed on the spot,” reported Dawn. Following the incident, locals staged a demonstration, and demanded an inquiry into the incident and action against those responsible.
However, neither of the two reports included any images or footage from the incident, so we cannot establish a connection between the video in question and the events in Torghar.
While we could not independently verify whether the video shows funeral processions of those killed in Torghar, Soch Fact Check concludes it does not show a funeral following the Tirah valley shooting, as it first appeared online in June 2025.
