Claim: A viral video shows Imran Khan meeting PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan at Adiala Jail.
Fact: Gemini detected Google’s SynthID watermark in part of the visuals. Barrister Gohar also said the footage was fake.
On 25 August 2026, Facebook page Daily Youth Vision shared a nine-second video that appears to show former Prime Minister Imran Khan sitting across from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
Urdu text over the video reads, “عمران خان اور بیرسٹر گوہر خان کی ملاقات کی فوٹیج وائرل، حقیقت جان کر حیران رہ جائیں گے”,
[Translation: “Footage of Imran Khan and Barrister Gohar Khan’s meeting goes viral; you will be surprised to learn the truth.”]
The post’s caption similarly read, “بڑی خبر: عمران خان اور بیرسٹر گوہر کی ملاقات کی فوٹیج وائرل، حقیقت جان کر حیران رہ جائیں گے۔۔ ہارون الرشید کی وال سے۔۔”,
[Translation: “Big news: Footage of Imran Khan and Barrister Gohar’s meeting goes viral; you will be surprised to learn the truth. From Haroon ur Rashid’s wall.”]
Similar versions of the clip circulated on Facebook, Instagram, and X, with some posts presenting it as genuine footage of a meeting at Adiala Jail.
Khan’s health dispute
The video circulated amid a dispute over Khan’s medical treatment. On 18 August 2026, the Supreme Court ordered that Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital. The government subsequently filed a review petition and took him to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on the night of 20 August.
Government representatives said doctors found Khan medically fit, while PTI disputed the process and said authorities had violated the Supreme Court’s directions. Dawn and The Express Tribune reported on the dispute.
Fact or Fiction?
Before the viral footage appeared, Barrister Gohar had already denied reports that he had recently met Khan. On 12 August, Samaa TV reported that Gohar said he had not met Khan since 15 October 2025 and had repeatedly been denied permission to do so. Dawn reported that Barrister Gohar spoke to the media after meeting Khan at Adiala Jail on 15 October 2025, confirming that a meeting took place on the date he cited.
After the footage circulated, Barrister Gohar specifically denied its authenticity. On 25 August, Geo News reported that he said the circulating video of his purported meeting with Khan was fake. ARY News separately reported that Barrister Gohar described the circulating CCTV footage as fake.
Barrister Gohar’s denial is relevant because he is one of the people the clip purports to show, but it does not prove that the footage is false on its own.
However, Google Gemini detected a SynthID watermark in the visuals between 0:00 and 0:08. According to Google, detecting SynthID indicates that all or part of an image or video was created or edited using Google AI.
Selected frames from the viral video show that the CCTV-style timestamp moves backwards from “11:37:06” to “11:37:01” before returning to “11:37:06”.
A frame-by-frame examination found that the CCTV-style timestamp does not progress chronologically. It reads “11:37:06” near the beginning of the clip, changes backwards to “11:37:01” at around 0:02, and returns to “11:37:06” at around 0:06. Soch Fact Check also observed shifting details in the faces, hands, and marks on the wall, but did not treat these as conclusive because low resolution and compression can produce similar distortions.
Taken together, the SynthID detection, Barrister Gohar’s specific denial of the circulating footage, his earlier statement that no recent meeting had taken place, the inconsistent CCTV-style timestamp, and the absence of independently verifiable evidence authenticating the purported meeting show that the viral clip does not depict genuine footage of the two politicians meeting at Adiala Jail.
Virality
The claim circulated on Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok. Soch Fact Check reviewed ten Facebook posts, six Instagram posts, two X posts, and one TikTok post, which had accumulated at least 288,000 views, 1,831 likes or reactions, 406 comments or replies, and 287 shares or reposts by 5:40 pm on 26 August.
Conclusion: The viral video does not show genuine footage of Imran Khan meeting Barrister Gohar at Adiala Jail. Gemini detected Google’s SynthID watermark in part of the visuals, and Barrister Gohar said the footage was fake. The clip cannot be used to assess Khan’s health.
