Claim: A video shows Pakistan’s independence day celebrations in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Fact: The claim is false. The video shows a demonstration held in solidarity with Gaza in April 2025.

A video shared online on 15 August claimed to show “Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations in Dhaka, Bangladesh.” It shows a public procession where two individuals are carrying the flags of Pakistan and Bangladesh while chanting slogans in Bengali and Urdu.

Fact or Fiction?

In the video, apart from only two individuals carrying the flags of Pakistan and Bangladesh, more people in the background can be seen holding or waving Palestinian flags. Therefore, we conducted a reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video to trace its origin and understand the full context.

We found that the video was shared as early as 12 April 2025 on Facebook with the caption: “মার্চ ফর গা’জার প্রোগ্রাম করতাছে বাংলাদেশ। সেখানে পাকিস্তানের পতাকা থাকবে কেনো??আর কোন দেশের পতাকা তো দেখতাছি না।”

“Bangladesh is holding a ‘March for Gaza’ program. Why would there be a Pakistani flag there?? I don’t see any other country’s flag either.”

The same video was also shared by the account Pakistan Bangladesh Unity on 27 April 2025 with the caption: “Bangladeshi People protest for Freedom of Kashmir and Palestine. Tera Mera Rishta Kya? LA Ilaha Illalah.

Ham cheen k len gay.. Azadi.. Azadi..Azadi..”

Seeing that it was shared months before 14 August 2025, it could not have been related to any of Pakistan’s independence day celebrations held this year as the claim suggests. Our analysis of the video also strongly suggests that it shows a protest held in solidarity with Gaza, not a celebration of Pakistan’s independence day. Some clear markers identified in the clip are given in the image below:

Soch Fact Check then searched for news reports on the march and found coverage by The Daily Star, a Bangladeshi English-language daily, which included a video of the protest matching the location seen in the viral clip. According to the report from 7 April 2025, students, teachers, activists, and ordinary citizens across Bangladesh staged widespread demonstrations in solidarity with Palestinians, against “Israeli atrocities” in Gaza. Participants carried Palestinian flags, chanted slogans condemning genocide, and called for boycotts of Israeli products, while some vandalised establishments of multinational companies, the report added.

A further search yielded another clip, shared on 8 April 2025, in which the student carrying the Pakistani flag can be seen speaking to the press. He explained that, as a Pakistani student, he wanted to send a message to the Pakistani government, noting that Bangladeshis showed greater passion and commitment to supporting Palestinians than Pakistanis. He added that Bangladesh had consistently stood with Palestine despite lacking nuclear weapons or military might.

While Soch Fact Check could not independently verify the exact location of the protest, the Facebook posts indicate that the viral video was filmed during a demonstration held in solidarity with Gaza.

On Instagram, it was shared here (archive) and here (archive).

On X, it was shared here, here, here, here, and here. Archived here, here, here, here, here.

Conclusion: The viral video shows a protest held in solidarity with Gaza in Bangladesh in April 2025. It does not show Pakistan’s independence day celebrations.
