Claim: A video circulating online shows a recent protest outside Adiala jail.
Fact: The viral video is most likely AI-generated.
A video shared online shows a large crowd gathered outside Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, chanting various slogans. While some of the slogans are inaudible, the more familiar phrases included “Imran Khan” and “Reha karo Imran Khan ko!” [Release Imran Khan!].
Fact or Fiction?
The chants heard at the beginning of the video are largely unintelligible, and the flag visible in the footage does not match the official flag of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). A visual comparison with PTI’s official flag further confirms that the flag shown in the clip is significantly different. This suggested that the video is likely AI-generated as AI models approximate patterns and colours instead of accurately reproducing logos, flags, or text. This happens because the AI generates visuals based on patterns learned from its training data and not from verified images.

Additionally, the surrounding area and exterior shown in the video do not resemble Adiala jail. A comparison with authentic images of Adiala jail confirmed that the location in the clip is not the actual jail.

AI-generated videos can misplace landmarks or architectural features as models predict plausible scenes rather than referencing real-world locations. Details like building shapes, sign boards, or surroundings often don’t match authentic locations.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral clip led to a post on the Facebook page Politics AI, which is categorised as a personal blog. A review of the account’s recent posts revealed that most of its videos are AI-generated. Notably, the account has shared multiple videos claiming to show protests outside Adiala jail. However, the appearance of the jail’s exterior and gate is different in each clip. These inconsistencies further support the conclusion that the video does not depict real events and is most likely AI-generated.
