Claim: A video claims to show members of the Turkish parliament applauding their president after he signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
Fact: The clip is unrelated to the defence pact, which was signed two months after the video first appeared online.
On 11 August 2026, a Facebook account named Engr Khalil Hussain shared a video of Türkiye’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan entering the parliament and being welcomed with an applause by everyone present in the hall. The caption reads:
مکہ دفائی معاہدے (سعودی عرب-ترکیہ-پاکستان) کے بعد ترکیہ کے صدر کا انکی پارلیمنٹ میں استقبالیہ دیکھیں۔۔۔۔ “

Mecca Joint Defence Agreement
On August 7 2026, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed a joint defence pact at Al-Safa Palace in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The agreement, known as Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, was signed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence at the venue.
A press release posted to X the same day by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the agreement reflects “the three States’ shared commitment to further strengthen their collective security and to promote peace, security, and stability in the region and beyond, in pursuit of a secure and prosperous future.”
Fact or Fiction?
A reverse-image search led to the account of a Turkish politician named Huseyin Altinsoy, who had posted the same video on 11 June 2026 i.e. before the Mecca agreement was signed. He did not mention the context of the video in his caption nor did he state a reason for the applause.
Both the video under investigation and Altinsoy’s clip have the same Turkish text written at the top left corner that says, “TBMM AK Parti Grup Toplantisi”, which translates to “TBMM AK Party Group Meeting.” There is no mention of the Mecca agreement in his post.

According to Altinsoy’s Instagram bio, he is a member of Turkey’s ruling AK Party, led by Erdogan. His credentials were confirmed from the website of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, also known as Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi (TBMM) in Turkish.
As the video was posted almost two months before the Mecca agreement was signed, the clip is unrelated.
Virality
Soch Fact Check first came across a viral Facebook post with as many as 47,000 views and 3,300 likes. It garnered more reach after it was shared by an Instagram page named vnpnewsurdu 97,100 views and 10,100 likes.
Conclusion: The video does not show Turkish president Erdogan welcomed with applause after signing the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement . The clip can be traced back to 11 June 2026, whereas the pact was signed on 7 August 2026.
