Claim: A video leaked by the Iran-linked Handala group, which hacked into FBI Director Kash Patel’s personal email, shows him dancing to a Bollywood song.

Fact: The video is unrelated to the FBI Director’s emails leaked by the Iran-linked group in March 2026; it appeared online as early as July 2020.

On 30 March, a Facebook post claimed that a leaked video of FBI Director Kash Patel showed him dancing to a song. The claim alleged that the video is a part of the emails released by an Iranian hacker group Handala, which hacked into the FBI Director’s personal email.

“This is Kash Patel, Director of FBI of America.

Palestine Nawaz hackers hacked his personal email and computer and released such videos so that the world can understand the seriousness and integrity of the officials of American agencies”, claims the post.

Amid the Israel-US n war with Iran, an Iran-linked group called the Handala Hack Team broke into FBI Director Kash Patel’s personal email, releasing his photographs and other documents, according to reports citing the group and the FBI.

Reports say that the Handala group is linked to Iranian cyber intelligence. In March 2026, the group reportedly carried out a cyber attack on Stryker, a US medical device company, disrupting its global network amid the war.

As news of the breach received widespread coverage in the media, multiple users on social media shared a video claiming it was part of the hacked emails and supposedly showed Patel dancing to a song.

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check reverse-searched keyframes from the video and found that it appeared online as early as July 2020. Hence it is not connected to the recent email leaks.

The initial search led to an article by Indian publication News 18, titled “Watch: Man’s Happy Dance As Wife Leaves For Maternal Home Amuses Internet”, from 26 December 2022 (archive). It carried images of a man in a dancing pose and claimed he was celebrating his “new-found freedom” after his wife left for her parents’ house. According to the article, the video shows him dancing to the song ‘Sun Sahiba Sun’ by the late Lata Mangeshkar from the movie Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985).

The photos of the man published in the article match keyframes from the video being fact-checked, indicating that it is old.

Screenshots of the video being fact-checked match the images from the News 18 article.

Soch Fact Check then conducted a keyword search based on this information and found the same videos of the man dancing, dating back even earlier to July 2020.

The same video was published on 25 July 2020 by a YouTube user, @MonuNamdev,  with the caption referring to the same song “Sun Sahiba Sun”.

A YouTube short from 15 July 2020 also matched the clip being fact-checked and its description also mentions the same song.

Moreover, Soch Fact Check did not find any credible reports confirming that the man depicted in the video was indeed Kash Patel. The lack of credible reports, along with the fact that the video can be found online as early as 2020, leads us to rate the claim as false.
