Claim: A video shows the lawyers’ community in Kashmir assaulting former PTI leader Fayaz ul Hassan Chohan.
Fact: The video shows an incident which took place in Lahore and can be traced back to 2019.
On 2 August 2026, a Facebook account named ‘Taza Point’ posted a video showing former Information Minister of Punjab Fayaz ul Hassan Chohan being manhandled by a large group of protesters, seemingly dressed as lawyers. The clip was posted amid the recent unrest in Kashmir. The caption reads:
“فیض الحسن چوہان کی درگت بنانے پر ہم اہلیان ک۔ش۔م۔ی۔ر وکلاء برادری کو سلام پیش کرتے ہیں…”
“#trending #virelreels #PTIofficial #PTI #ImranKhanPTI #foryoupageシ
[Translation: “We salute the lawyer community of Kashmir for giving Fayaz-ul-Hassan Chohan a sound thrashing…

Fact or Fiction?
A search of recent news articles reporting on Kashmiri lawyers having an altercation with Chohan did not yield any results.
However, a reverse-image search of the video under investigation helped trace its original source. The search led to several other Facebook links that had shared the video recently with a similar claim. However, one link led to a video posted on SAMAA TV’s YouTube channel on 11 December 2019.
The video, titled “SAMAA EXCLUSIVE | Lawyers badly torture Fayaz Ul Hassan Chohan | 11 December 2019”, matches the footage under investigation, showing the former minister being dragged and heckled by a crowd of lawyers. Moreover, the news ticker visible in this coverage, mentioned the city of Lahore, not Kashmir.
Ticker in SAMAA TV’s video, dated 11 December 2019, shows the location of Lahore, not Kashmir.
The presence of Dawn’s logo in the upper-right corner of the video shared in the claim (shown below) prompted a keyword search of “lawyers assault fayaz ul hassan chohan 2019 dawn”, which identified the original clip. The search led to an article published on the same date of 11 December 2019, titled “3 patients die as lawyers’ protest outside Lahore hospital turns violent”.
The article mentions that the incident took place in Lahore, not Kashmir. Moreover, it reported on the details of a “violent protest by lawyers at Lahore’s Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC)”. An excerpt of the report reads:
“Punjab Information Minister Fayazul Hasan Chauhan, who had arrived at the hospital, said that ‘lawyers had tried to kidnap’ him. In a video, he can be seen being manhandled by a group of protesting lawyers.”
The video- hyperlinked in the report – is the same clip being fact-checked, and was posted to Dawn’s Instagram page on 11 December 2019.

Since the original video predates the claim, Soch Fact Check concluded that the claim is false. The video of lawyers assaulting Chohan is old, and it is not from Kashmir.
