Claim: The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) issued a statement in support of Khyber Pakhthunkhwa (KPK) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
Fact: TTP has denied issuing such a statement. The text being circulated is likely AI-generated.
On 30 September 2026, Chairperson PEMRA (Council of Complaints), Sindh Wajahat Kazmi shared a statement by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and claimed that they have come out in support of Khyber Pakhthunkhwa (KPK) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
The complete statement reads:
Translation: [“Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s statement on Punjabi colonialist conspiracy against Pakhtun nation’s elected Chief Minister Sohail Afridi
The conspiracies hatched by Pakistan’s subservient Prime Minister (Shehbaz Sharif) and the head of the illegitimate system—the American puppet Asim Munir—to topple the government of the Pashtun Chief Minister Sohail Afridi are no longer a secret to anyone.
Although we regard the democracy enforced in Pakistan as an illegitimate system and desire the implementation of Sharia law in the country, the anti-Islamic Pakistani army—an instrument of imperialism—has now begun plotting against even the democratically elected Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan wishes to clarify that the conspiracy against an elected Chief Minister in Pakistan serves as proof that the Pakistani state will go to any lengths—driven by its *kufr* (disbelief) and self-interest—to achieve its ends. Despite our opposition to the democratic system, we stand with Sohail Afridi, the representative of the Pashtuns.
The Pakistani state has initiated a war in the tribal districts to seize mineral resources—resources to which the local population and *Wilayat Khorasan* hold the rightful claim. If the state removes Sohail Khan Afridi, an open war will erupt from Khyber to Karachi; the decision-makers of this state—founded upon a false, *kufr*-based system—will bear full responsibility for any civilian casualties that ensue.
We pray to Allah Almighty to grant Sohail Afridi unseen aid and to make the Tehreek-e-Taliban a means of deliverance for Pakistan from the corrupt and oppressive system. Ameen.”]
PTI’s Long March
On 25 September 2026, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced the postponement of their long-planned nationwide protest until 4 October. The protest, which was originally set to take place on 27 September, demands the release of party founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan from prison. To that end, it seeks to mobilise citizens across the country in support of the “supremacy of the Constitution and law.”
In response to the original announcement, the government took major steps to restrict the scheduled protest, which have been considered disruptive and mishandled by some commentators and citizens.
Most notably, there was a wave of preventive arrests targeting PTI organisers and associated figures, including Khan’s sisters. Amnesty International termed these arrests a “flagrant violation of human rights.”
In addition, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a ruling stating that political parties cannot “occupy roads, highways, interchanges, toll plazas, or public buildings in a way that obstructed citizens’ movement, business activity, or access to hospitals and educational institutions.”
Fact or Fiction?
No credible news publications have reported on any such statement by the TTP.
Soch Fact Check saw evidence that TTP spokesperson Mohammad Khurasani has clarified to the media that they haven’t issued any such statements in support of PTI or Afridi. Moreover, we noticed that the statement is dated with the Islamic year of 1444 when the current year is 1448.
Left: Old Islamic year of 1444 mentioned in the statement under investigation, Right: The current Islamic year according to the calendar.
Since the TTP spokesperson denied issuing the back-dated statement, we decided to run the text through AI detection tools to see if it was written with the help of AI.
AI or Not, which is developed by Bioptic, an American tech company founded by former Google product director Andrey Doronichev, concluded that the text “100% likely contains AI”.
Result by AI or Not.
We also ran the text through an online writing platform named Humalingo that helps humanise AI-written text. It is run by a company based in Lithuania called KrivisAI. It gave the text a score of 96% AI and 4% human. The tool further stated that the “language use and phrasing patterns indicate automated generation rather than independent human writing.”
Result by Humalingo.
Going by the TTP spokesperson’s comment to the media, the old Islamic year written on the statement, and results from AI tools, we can conclude that the statement is fake.
Virality
Soch Fact Check first came across a viral post on X with as many as 81,900 views and 214 reshares.
It received more views on the platform after it received 53,800 and 672 views via separate posts.
Conclusion: Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) did not issue a statement in support of KPK CM Sohail Afridi. TTP spokesperson Mohammad Khurasani has refuted the document circulating on social media, the text of which is likely AI-generated.
