Claim: The caption states that Saudi Arabia has stated it will no longer support Donald Trump, bringing a major shift in Saudi-US relations after many years.

Fact: The claim is false. A video posted along with the claim does not show a Saudi official making any such statements about the country’s ties with the US or Trump.

On 16 April 2026, Instagram user THE VOXVERITAS GLOBAL posted a clip captioned:

“Saudi Arabia says it cannot fully support Trump anymore, Leaders suggest Trump should focus on his own problems first, A big change in Saudi–U.S. relations after many years. Seen as a strong and surprising political move. Some call it a “historic U-turn” by Saudi Arabia

The misleading caption is accompanied by a clip of Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister discussing the Middle East’s foreign policies, and how they will continue to function with Western countries moving forward.

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check suspected that the claim in the caption was false, as the Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud did not make such a statement in the video itself.

The transcription is seen below, and the Prince is quoted as saying:

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and as far as I know, all the Arab countries, does not put its policies based on the interests of others, it puts its policies based on its own interests.  And we will follow our interests, and we will continue to follow our policies based on those interests, regardless of the points of view. And we will remain open to dialogue with all our partners, East and West, to ensure that there is a complete understanding of what we are doing, and that there is an effort to achieve these common benefits.”

Soch Fact Check had to conduct a reverse-image search of the video’s thumbnail to find its origins as the post does not mention any date or place. The search results yielded reports from outlets like Al Arabiya and Global Times which stated that it is from a 2022 press conference held by the Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister. It was held in Riyadh at the King Abdul Aziz International Conference Center after the China-Arab States Summit and China-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit.

Furthermore, the search led us to a video posted by Saudi television news channel, Al Saudiya, of a 2 minute and 32 second clip from the press conference where the Foreign Minister is speaking from a 2022 Conference.

Al-Hadath, another Saudi news channel, published complete footage of the press conference. These videos match with the original video found in the claim, and within the transcription, there was no mention of US President Donald Trump at all.

The common benefits are not only for us with China, but for us with America, and for us with others. And we seek to follow our interests, and we find our interests in the West and in the East, and wherever we find them, we will work to achieve them.”

Hence, the caption in the X post was false, but footage remains correct.

Furthermore, to add credibility, Soch Fact Check took a snapshot of this conference to validate the date as seen below:

Al Hadath’s YouTube channel uploaded footage of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan’s press conference at the conclusion of the China-Arab States Summit and China-GCC Summit

Therefore, Soch Fact Check confirms that the caption makes a false claim.

Virality

Soch Fact Check found the claim circulating here, here, here, here, and here on Instagram.

Soch Fact Check found the claim posted here, and here on Facebook

It was also shared here, here, here, here, and here on X

It was found here on TikTok.

Conclusion: The caption of the post makes a false claim. The viral clip itself does not show Saudi leadership distancing itself from the US or mentioning Donald Trump. In fact, the clip is originally from a 2022 conference and at the time Joe Biden was the US President, not Trump
