Claim: A photo shows the Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence of Pakistan (DG ISI) Nadeem Anjum attending the funeral of former Pakistani president and military dictator General Pervez Musharraf.

Fact: The photo is actually from January 2023, when the DG ISI attended the funeral prayers of two martyred officers of the Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department.

Fact or Fiction?

On 7 February 2023, Twitter user @Ommiyar shared a photo claiming that it shows ISI Director General Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum attending Pakistan’s former president General Pervez Musharraf’s funeral.

The former general, 79, died on 5 February 2023 at a hospital in Dubai after a prolonged illness.

Soch Fact Check used reverse image search tools to ascertain the source of the photograph.

We found the original photo in an article by The Express Tribune, published on 4 January 2023 and titled, “Funeral prayers offered for martyred CTD officers.”

The picture shows Anjum attending the funeral prayers of two martyred officers of the Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Director Naveed Sadiq Sial and Inspector Nasir Abbas.

The CTD officers were shot dead by one or multiple unidentified suspects in the parking space of a hotel near Pirowal, Khanewal district, on 3 January 2023.

In an article, Dawn.com featured a tweet by journalist Kamran Yousaf, who shared the same photo. The report states that Anjum, along with other civil and military officials, attended the funeral prayer of Sadiq in Lahore.

Media outlet 24 News HD carried other photos from the funeral in an article.

Virality:

The photo posted by Umair gained significant traction, with over 222,500 people viewing the post, more than 14,600 viewing the tweet, as well as 65 retweets and 328 likes as of writing time.

Conclusion: The photo is unrelated to Musharraf’s funeral. It actually shows DG ISI attending the funeral prayers of two martyred CTD officers in Lahore on 4 January 2023.
