Claim: A CCTV video shows the killing of Sheikh Mohammad Idrees, a religious cleric and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) member, on 5 May 2026.

Fact: The video is old and appeared online as early as April 2025, and likely shows a shooting incident in Peshawar at the time.

A Facebook user posted a video — CCTV footage— apparently showing the killing of Sheikh Mohammad Idrees, a religious cleric and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) member, in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on 5 May 2026.

The clip shows a white car slowing down before coming to a halt. First, a man in white and later some others approach the car with guns and shoot at it.

Part of the caption, when translated into English, states: “The video of the killing of Sheikh Mohammad Idrees”.

A religious cleric and JUI-F member Sheikh Mohammad Idrees, was killed in a targeted gun attack in Charsadda on 5 May. 

Four gunmen targeted him while he was on his way to Darul Uloom Noumania after leaving his house, according to Dawn, which cited a Charsadda police spokesperson.

Two of his security personnel were also injured in the attack, according to reports.

This article only factchecks the video allegedly showing the assassination.

Fact or Fiction?

Analysis of the footage and a reverse-search of its keyframes show that the footage is unrelated to the killing of Sheikh Mohammad Idrees in May 2026.

In the top-right corner, “2025” is clearly visible, which indicated the footage was old [highlighted in the image below].

         Footage has “2025” appearing in the top left corner.

Soch Fact Check then reverse-searched keyframes from the video and found that it is unrelated to the killing of the cleric.

A Facebook account also posted the same clip on 27 April 2025, with the description stating [translated from Urdu into English]: 

“Peshawar!

Full CCTV footage of the Jamil Chowk Peshawar incident in which 5 people were killed!”

It appeared on YouTube on 27 April 2025 with the title linking the same footage to an incident in Peshawar. The frame shows the video side by side with an Urdu newspaper clipping about the killing of six people by gunmen in Peshawar.

Geo News also posted a still of the same CCTV footage in its report on YouTube, titled “Firing on vehicle in Peshawar | Breaking News” on 27 April 2025.

The Facebook account of ARY News also featured the clip in its report on Facebook on 27 April 2025. “Peshawar: 7 people were killed at Pahand and Jameel Chowk, CCTV footage has emerged”, the description stated.

Gunmen opened fire and killed six people near Jameel Chowk in Peshawar at the time.

The clip also appeared on YouTube on 28 April 2025.

The same video was also shared on Facebook here on 27 April 2025.

Soch Fact Check, therefore, rates the claim as false.
