Claim: Images show the recent bomb blast that derailed four carriages of the Quetta-bound Jaffar Express on 7 October.

Fact: These images are old and unrelated to the recent blast that derailed four carriages of the Jaffar Express. The first image is from five years ago, and the second image is from two years ago.

On 7 October, an X user shared two photos that apparently showed an attack on the Jaffar Express train.

The description of the post reads: “Jaffar Reports in Pakistan has again been attacked this time by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast, the IED was planted on the tracks.”

6 Coaches have been derailed and Several Soldiers of Pakistan Army are badly Wounded. Baloch rebel group, Baloch Republic Guards have taken the Responsibility.”

A blast targeted a Jaffar Express train in Sindh’s Shikarpur district on 7 October, derailing four carriages. At least seven were injured in the train travelling from Peshawar to Quetta but no casualties were reported.

This article only fact-checks whether the images are related to the recent blast.

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check reverse searched the images circulating online and found that they are unrelated to the recent attack.

Image 1 (archive): This image is from at least five years ago. Dawn published the same picture (archive) in its article called “Four killed as railway track blown up” in March 2019.

The Dawn report above links this attack to the bomb blast that took place in Dera Murad Jamali, targeting Jaffar Express and killing at least four people.

Therefore, this image is not linked to the attack on Jaffar Express on 7 October 2025.

Image 2 (archive): The second image circulating online is from at least two years ago. The Business Standard published the same photo in its article titled “30 killed, 80 injured as passenger train derails in Pakistan” on 6 August 2023.

The article above credits the photo to Reuters. Soch Fact Check found the image originally published by Reuters, and the caption links the photo to the same incident.

The BBC also published a similar photo of the same incident on 7 August 2023. According to its caption, the image is linked to the same incident of a train derailment in August 2023. 10 carriages of the Hazara Express train heading to Rawalpindi went off the tracks in Nawabshah, Sindh, killing 30 people and injuring at least 90, according to reports at the time.

Soch Fact Check thus concludes that the second image, too, is unrelated to the bomb blast that targeted Jaffar Express on 7 October 2025.

Virality

The first image appeared on X here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

The second image was shared and linked to the recent attack here, here, here (first image), here, here, here, here, and here.

On Facebook, the second image was shared here.

Both images were also shared on X here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Conclusion: The images of a derailed train shared in the claim are not linked to the recent blast that targeted the Jaffar Express heading to Quetta on 7 October 2025.
