Claim: A video shows a recent explosion taking place in the Saddar area of Karachi.

Fact: The explosion depicted in the footage took place in 2023, reportedly near Surjani Town. It does not show any recent explosion in Saddar.

A Facebook user posted a video (archive) that apparently shows a recent explosion taking place in the Saddar area of Karachi. The text embedded in the footage reads [translated into English]: Once again, there has been an explosion in the Saddar area of Karachi.”

A voice-over also plays over the clip, which says: “We will share breaking news with you. An explosion occurred in the Saddar area of Karachi. The windows of vehicles were broken due to the explosion. The Karachi area is a suburban area. There is a lot of rush here. It is being reported that the nature of the explosion is being assessed. Police…”

Soch Fact Check did not find any reports of an explosion occurring in the Saddar area of Karachi in July 2025. However, last month, a fire reportedly broke out in a commercial building near Regal Chowk, Saddar.

Reliable news articles also reported on an IED blast that took place in Saddar in May 2022, resulting in one death and nine injuries.

Therefore, this fact-check is only investigating the origins of the video in the claim to find if it is linked to any past events in the Saddar area.

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check reverse-searched keyframes from the video and found that the footage is not linked to the Saddar area in Karachi.

Turkish publication En Son Haber published an article (archive) about a gas cylinder explosion, titled “Explosion in Pakistan: The area turned into a war zone” in January 2023. According to reports, an explosion took place in a cylinder shop in the Surjani area of Karachi.

The article also features a video with the caption that reads, “Explosion in Pakistan: The place turned into a war zone VIDEO”. The scenes in this clip from 0:02 to 0:25 match the video being fact-checked, indicating that it shows an explosion which occurred near Surjani Town and not Saddar, Karachi.

Screengrab from Facebook video being fact-checked matches the video report by the Turkish publication on the right.

Aaj News, a Pakistani TV channel, also reported on the blast (archive) in January 2023. Titled “Cylinder blast in Karachi near Surjani Town | Aaj News”, its video-report on YouTube, showing the explosion, aligns with the footage being fact-checked. The report confirmed that the video shows an incident which occurred in 2023 near Surjani Town. It does not show any blast taking place in Saddar recently.

Soch Fact Check thus concludes that the video is old and does not show Saddar, Karachi.

Virality

The Facebook video garnered 17,400 views and was shared 1,100 times.

It also appeared on Facebook here, here, here, and here.

The video appeared on YouTube here

Conclusion: The video in the claim does not depict an explosion in the Saddar area of Karachi. Instead, it shows a gas cylinder explosion that occurred near Surjani Town in January 2023.
