Claim: During a speech, Maryam Nawaz allegedly said that she does not make claims like Nawaz Sharif and instead proves herself through her work.
Fact: The clip is taken out of context. In her full remarks, Maryam Nawaz was not making a comparison. She was instead aligning herself with her father and emphasising that, like him, she fulfills her promises through action.
On 12 February, journalist Khurram Iqbal shared a video of Maryam Nawaz, writing, “مریم نواز، نوازشریف کی طرح دعوی نہیں کرتی، کام کر کے دکھاتی ہے، مریم نواز کی زبان پھسل گئی۔۔!!”
[Translation: Maryam Nawaz does not just make claims like Nawaz Sharif; she proves it through her work. Maryam Nawaz had a slip of the tongue…!!]
In the viral clip, CM Punjab says, “Maryam Nawaz Nawaz Sharif ki tarhan daa’wah nahi karti. Kaam kar ke dekha ti hai Alhumdulillah.”
[Translation: Maryam Nawaz does not make claims like Nawaz Sharif. She proves herself through her work, Alhamdulillah.]
Journalist and anchor, Hamid Mir also reposted Iqbal’s post on X.
Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check reverse-searched keyframes of the viral clip to trace the original footage and understand the context of Maryam Nawaz’s remarks. The complete footage was shared on PML-N’s official YouTube channel on 12 February 2026. It was titled: “LIVE 🔴 𝗖𝗠 𝗣𝘂𝗻𝗷𝗮𝗯 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗮𝗺 𝗡𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘇 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗶 𝗝𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗮 | Major Political Speech | PMLN Official
On 12 February, Maryam Nawaz visited Mianwali and addressed a public gathering at the Government High School grounds. She conveyed greetings from Nawaz Sharif and thanked the people of Mianwali for their love and support. Nawaz announced a series of multi-billion-rupee development projects including the establishment of a medical college and the launch of the province-wide “Apna Khet Apni Zameen” initiative to provide land to landless farmers.
In the opening remarks of her speech, the chief minister said that although Mianwali may be distant on Punjab’s map, it is not far on the map of Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif’s hearts. That, she explained, is why she has visited Mianwali for the third or fourth time within just two years.
She added that when she first came to Mianwali after becoming Chief Minister, she had thought that Mianwali had ruled not only over itself but over Pakistan for four years. Therefore, she very carefully observed the city, but did not find signs of prosperity or effective management.
She went on to say that in order to love a city, it is not necessary to have an association with it or to be born there, and that her heart belongs to Mianwali. She then delivered the statement cited in the viral clip at 4:00. In this context, it’s clear that she was not comparing herself to her father, nor was it a slip of the tongue; rather, she was aligning herself with him.
When Nawaz referred to Mianwali having “ruled over the country for four years,” she was alluding to former prime minister Imran Khan, whose hometown is Mianwali. Khan secured his first general election victory in 2002 from the NA-95 constituency in Mianwali. Although he vacated the seat after the 2013 elections, in 2018 he chose to retain his Mianwali seat and relinquished the other constituencies he had won.
A Dawn article published the following day, recounting Nawaz’s speech in Mianwali, also referenced her remarks about Khan. It reported: “Without naming Imran Khan, the chief minister said although a man from Mianwali had ruled both Pakistan and Punjab, he ‘failed to deliver meaningful development for his own district.’”
Nawaz once again aligned herself with her father at 10:40, saying: “Aur jab aap ko pata hai ab dunya jaanti hai ke Maryam Nawaz Sharif koi waada karti hai tou Nawaz Sharif ki tarhan usko poora kar ke dum leti hai.”
[Translation: And now that you know, and the world knows, that when Maryam Nawaz Sharif makes a promise, she fulfills it just like Nawaz Sharif, and does not rest until it is done.]
A review of her full speech confirmed that she did not compare herself with Nawaz Sharif at any point but rather emphasised her similarities to her father.
Soch Fact Check also reviewed Geo News’ coverage of Nawaz’s speech and found that it reflected the same context and sequence of remarks.
