Claim: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is expected to meet New York Mayor City Zohran Mamdani during his ongoing visit to the US.
Fact: According to Mamdani’s office, there is no meeting in the works between Naqvi and the Mayor, nor have there ever been any plans to hold such a meeting.
On 8 July 2026, Dawn reported that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was set to meet New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, writing:
“During his visit, diplomatic sources said, a meeting between Naqvi and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani is also expected.”
Other prominent news outlets, including The News International and Pakistan Today, also reported this claim.
Naqvi’s Visit to the US
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently travelled to the US to represent Pakistan at the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit 2026 (UNCOPS), held at the UN Headquarters in New York City from 7 to 8 July.
During his time in New York, he also met other state officials such as his Bangladeshi counterpart.
Fact or Fiction?
Mamdani’s Communications Director Anna Bahr explicitly denied claims of an upcoming meeting on X.
Bahr’s response to an X post by political advocate Mehlaqa Samdani which referred to the alleged upcoming meeting.
Following this, Soch Fact Check reached out to the New York City Mayor’s office for further comment. A source within the office confirmed, “This meeting was never scheduled and will not be scheduled.”
Additionally, Naqvi is no longer in Mamdani’s city. On 9 July, he arrived in Washington, where he met FBI Director Kash Patel.
Based on these facts, Soch Fact Check concludes that the claim that a meeting has been scheduled between Mamdani and Naqvi is false.
Virality
The claim was reported in Pakistan’s leading English-language daily newspapers, Dawn, The News International and Pakistan Today. It was also shared widely on social media, where criticism of Mamdani’s alleged decision to meet Naqvi drew the response from Bahr clarifying that the report was inaccurate (see above).
Conclusion: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has not been scheduled to meet New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at any point during his ongoing trip to the US.
