Maryam Nawaz Sharif did not endorse Imran Khan’s long march

Doctored video shared on Facebook implies Maryam Nawaz Sharif endorsed comments against the Sharif’s

By

Claim: Maryam Nawaz played a video of Imran Khan making fun of her at her press conference, calling his insults “golden words”.

Fact: The video was doctored. Imran Khan’s remarks were superimposed on top of a different video which Nawaz actually played at the press conference.

On 28 October 2022, a digital content creator shared footage from a press conference held by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) which showed Maryam Nawaz Sharif playing a video of Imran Khan at the presser. In the video, Khan says, referring to the Sharif family,You all saw how two kids made speeches, I don’t want to comment on that. One of them is a grandmother, but to me she is still a little child as Maryam Nawaz looks on, apparently reacting to the insult through her expressions.

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check found a video of Maryam Nawaz using the exact same words and wearing the same clothes at a press conference on 4 October 2022. However, in the original video, she is showing clips of Imran Khan speaking contradictorily about the Army Chief and the Armed Forces. In the recently posted video, these clips were replaced with clips of Khan making critical remarks about the Sharif’s.

Virality

The video in the claim was shared 21,000 times on Facebook; it gathered over 57,400 interactions and was viewed 1.7 million times.

Conclusion: The video is doctored. Maryam Nawaz showed a completely different video of Khan and criticized him at a 4 October 2022 press conference.
