Claim: Imran Khan has been released from Adiala Jail.
Fact: Khan’s legal team confirmed that he has not been released.
On 26 April 2025, a Facebook user published a reel without a caption. The thumbnail features Urdu text on the top and bottom of the screen, with a video of Imran Khan smiling and walking with a limp in the centre.
The text on the top reads: “[Translation] Thank God the negotiations have been successful. Imran Khan is being sent from Adiala Jail to Bani Gala — Asif Ghafoor.”
The text on the bottom reads: “[Translation] It is time to send the Shehbaz Sharif government packing — Asim Munir..”
The reel has so far received 1.7 million views and more than 39,000 reactions on Facebook.
Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check reached out to Imran Khan’s legal team. Khalid Yousaf, one of his lawyers, confirmed that the reel is fake, stating that Khan has definitely not been released. He further asserted that nearly 200 cases are still actively being pursued against Imran Khan, and his legal team is working on them.
We also received a separate denial of the claim from Barrister Ali Tahir, a Karachi-based lawyer who is also part of Khan’s legal team. He too confirmed that the claim is false.
In the video clip shown between the two layers of Urdu text, Imran Khan is clearly seen walking with a limp. On 3 November 2022, PTI chief Imran Khan sustained a bullet injury during an attack on his Wazirabad rally. At least 15 people — including Senator Faisal Javed Khan, Ahmad Nasir Chattha, and Mir Omer Farooq Meyer — were also injured in the incident.
The Urdu text in the thumbnail mentions Asif Ghafoor, however, it is highly unlikely that Ghafoor made the statement attributed to him, as he has already retired from active military service.
A former Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Ghafoor no longer holds an official position that would warrant or legitimise such public declarations, particularly those of a political nature.
It is most likely that the video was recorded sometime around November 2022, as Khan appears not to have fully recovered from his injury.
Virality
The reel mentioned above was viewed 1.7 million times on Facebook. The profile that posted it also shared the same claim in a separate post here. The account also shared another misleading reel about Imran Khan here.
The claim was also shared by other accounts here, here, here, here, and here.
Conclusion: Imran Khan has not been released yet.
