Claim: An image shows doctors operating on CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz following the announcement of her recent major surgery in Lahore.
Fact: The picture is AI-generated.
On 29 May 2026, a Facebook page named ‘Salwa Khan’ shared an image of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif lying on a hospital bed surrounded by doctors.
The caption reads:
[Translation: [The mother of the nation got so involved with organising projects that she had to undergo major surgery. Captain Safdar tells the people of Gilgit-Baltistan during the organisation.]
The image was shared by several other accounts on Facebook and X soon after Senior Minister of Punjab Marriyum Aurangzeb announced on her X account on 28 May that Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif had undergone a major surgery at the Sharif Medical City Hospital, Lahore.
She further added that Nawaz had returned home, but despite the surgery, the CM overlooked matters of cleanliness and security on the first day of Eid from the hospital.

Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check first noted visual discrepancies like Maryam Nawaz laying on the bed with a dupatta set over her head. Other details like the watch on her wrist and the makeup on her face clearly violate the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for a patient’s surgery. Moreover, the monitor behind her displays several wave lines but the numbers and standard medical labels are not visible.
Overall, it is very unlikely that a patient, especially a chief minister, is photographed while doctors are performing surgery on them. This led us to suspect that the visual might be fake.
Therefore, Soch Fact Check ran the image through Hive Moderation’s AI-Generated Content Detection tool. It gave the image a rating of 99.9%, concluding that it is most likely AI-generated.

Soch Fact Check also ran the image through Image Whisperer, another AI-generated content detection tool. According to its verdict, the image is AI-generated and it gave the following reasons for its result:
“The image exhibits signs of digital manipulation, particularly in the facial features and the integration of the subject into the surgical environment. The lighting on the patient’s face appears inconsistent with the ambient lighting of the operating room. There are also subtle edge artifacts and a lack of natural shadow integration, suggesting the subject may have been composited into the scene.”

To confirm the results, Soch Fact Check also ran the image through AI or Not, developed by Bioptic, an American tech company founded by former Google product director Andrey Doronichev.
It gave a rating of 99% AI and 13% deepfake, stating that the image is likely AI-generated.

Hence, based on the results from AI detection tools and the visual discrepancies obvious in the picture, Soch Fact Check confirms that the image is AI-generated.
Virality
Soch Fact Check first came across a viral post on Facebook with as many as 1300 likes and 119 shares that was consequently picked up by other accounts and pages. The image also went viral on X, with one post garnering as many views as 73,400 views as of writing time.
This isn’t the first time Maryam Nawaz has been a target of AI-generated disinformation. Soch Fact Check has previously debunked similar content for instance, a video of an elderly woman slapping Nawaz or a doctored clip showing her hand on Asim Munir’s lap.
