Claim: A video shows an Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-29 fighter jet crashing during landing in September 2026.
Fact: The video does not depict an authentic Indian MiG-29 crash and was traced to a gaming-content-focused YouTube channel that said it is from a game called “War Thunder”.
On 18 September 2026, multiple social media users posted a video of a fighter jet that crashed while landing. The clip was shared with the claim that it was an Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-29 plane.

Particularly, the captions accompanying the viral videos stated that “both pilots managed to eject safely” and that the “Indian Air Force has ordered an investigation into the incident”. Others included references to “pilot error”, “questions regarding the reliability and operational readiness of India’s fighter aircraft fleet”, and crash statistics between 2025 and 2026.
Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check found no recent news reports or credible social media updates of an Indian MiG-29 crashing in September 2026.
September 2024 was the last time an IAF MiG-29 crashed in Barmer, Rajasthan, and the same was reported by different media outlets, such as Indian Express, NDTV, The Hindu, and Hindustan Times.
We also noticed that some elements in the viral video do not appear authentic and resemble gameplay. For example, the background looks computer-generated and the pilot’s parachute opens up into a perfectly-round shape.
We then reverse-searched keyframes from the viral video and found a post each on Instagram and TikTok from August 2026, with no reference to the IAF, indicating that the clip predates the claims of a crash in September 2026.
Soch Fact Check also came across a clearer YouTube short from 15 September 2026 with the title, “MiG-29 Crash Landing! Fighter Jet Slams Onto Runway | Dramatic Landing Incident”.
Upon a second reverse-search using keyframes from the aforementioned short, we found a clip on the YouTube channel CompareZone from 22 July 2026, with the title, “Mig-29 Jet Slams on Runway 3”. Its description states that the video is “gaming content of war thunder”, a military video game developed by Gaijin Entertainment.

CompareZone, which is based in the US, states in its bio that its content is “100% genuine, original, and created for true gamers”. The YouTube channel contains several other similar videos.
Lastly, we found that the fact-checking wing of India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) has also refuted the claim, terming it “fake”.
Soch Fact Check, therefore, concludes that the video is gameplay and does not depict an authentic Indian MiG-29 crash.
Virality
Soch Fact Check found the video shared in at least 14 Facebook posts, five Instagram posts, and 12 X (formerly Twitter) posts.
Cumulatively, the X posts have gained more than 134,500 views so far.
Conclusion: The video does not depict an authentic Indian MiG-29 crash. It was traced to a gaming content-focused YouTube channel that said it is from a game called “War Thunder”.
