Fact or Fiction?

On 20 April 2023, Facebook user Bilal Ahmedzai shared a post claiming that journalist Saleem Safi that politician Mohsin Dawar had been killed along with two other people following an attack on his car while he was on his way to Islamabad from Peshawar.

“افسوس ناک

اسلام آباد سے پشاور جاتے ہوئے محسن داوڑ کی گاڑی پر نامعلوم افراد کی فائرنگ محسن داوڑ دو ساتھیوں سمیت شہید اللہ کریں

[So sad
While going from Islamabad to Peshawar, Mohsin Dawar’s car was fired upon by unknown persons, Mohsin Dawar along with two companions were martyred],” the post reads.

His post is based on a screenshot of Safi’s tweet doing the rounds on social media.

Soch Fact Check got in touch with Dawar, who told us that the viral claim is false.

The claim can be found here, here and here on Facebook.

Conclusion: Safi clarified that Dawar is safe and the tweet being attributed to him is doctored.
