Claim: Karachi’s Dolmen Mall Clifton is permanently closed as of January 2026.
Fact: The supermarket Carrefour, located in Dolmen Mall Clifton, shut down operations on 31 January 2026.
Social media page Voiceup Pakistan posted about the closure of Dolmen Mall Clifton, a landmark retail center near Sea View, Karachi, which has been operating since 2011.
The caption of the post reads:
“In a significant moment for Karachi’s retail landscape, Dolmen Mall Clifton — one of the city’s most iconic shopping destinations — has permanently closed its operations as of January 31, 2026. The sprawling mall, known for housing a range of international and local brands including Carrefour and lifestyle outlets, served thousands of shoppers weekly and played a major role in Karachi’s commercial and social life. Management cited evolving market dynamics, rising costs, and strategic realignment in Pakistan’s retail sector as key reasons behind the closure. Long‑time visitors shared nostalgic memories of the vibrant food courts, retail events, and community gatherings that once defined the mall.
Note: This announcement is written as a styled news post; no official confirmation from the mall management or Carrefour Pakistan has been published online as of now.”

Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check found the claim to be false with no announcement on any of Dolmen Mall’s social media pages or their official website for the Clifton location. The mall continues to operate as per usual, and no news or reports about its shutdown could be found online.
The confusion likely arose as Carrefour, the hypermarket inside the mall, quietly closed down on 31 January 2026 without any official announcement.
Initially opening in 2011 under the name Hyperstar, the market was the international chain’s second branch in Pakistan. Carrefour is owned by the French parent company by the same name, and was launched in Pakistan in partnership with the Dubai-based Emirati conglomerate Abdul Majid al-Futtaim Group.
While no official statement has been made regarding Carrefour shutting down and no clear reasoning has been provided. While Carrefour is on a list of companies that the BDS movement has called to boycott, there is no clear conclusion around the boycott being related to the retail centre’s closure.
Therefore, Soch Fact Check rates the claim as false.
