Claim: PTI leader Asad Qaiser refused to support a resolution in the National Assembly condemning Israel’s war in Palestine, saying he wouldn’t support it until a resolution was passed in favour of former prime minister Imran Khan.

Fact: Qaiser did not make any such remarks during the parliament’s session on 15 March 2024.

Fact or Fiction?

On 15 March 2024, X (formerly Twitter) account PakVocals (@PakVocals) claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser said that if a resolution in favour of Imran Khan cannot be passed by the parliament, he and his party will not allow one condemning Israel’s war in Palestine.

The complete text of the X post reads as follows,

[In a parliament where a resolution for Imran Khan cannot be passed, we will not allow a resolution for Palestine to be passed either- Asad Qaiser.

Passing a resolution for Palestine will add to Pakistan’s problems -Asad Qaiser

The purpose of supporting Palestine is to upset the European Union -Asad Qaiser

Pakistan has nothing to do with the issue of Israel and Palestine -Asad Qaiser

If someone wants to pass a resolution for Palestine, they may do so but we have no role to play in it -Asad Qaiser]”

Soch Fact Check found the claim to be false after reviewing Qaiser’s entire speech during the parliament’s session on 15 March which is available on the state-run Pakistan Television Corporation’s YouTube channel.

At the 16:57 mark of the clip, we can see Qaiser proposing that both houses of the parliament should pass a joint resolution condemning Israel’s aggression after the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) tabled a resolution against Israel.

Later in the session, when the law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar presented seven ordinances in the National Assembly, we can observe Qaiser criticising the government between the 37:56 and 38:45 mark for allegedly violating the rules of the lower house as he claimed that it prevented PTI’s senior leader Omar Ayub from speaking on the rushed lawmaking process, and requested the speaker to give Ayub time to speak.

Virality:

On X, the claim was posted here, here, here, here and here.

The post by @PakVocals gained significant traction with 155,100 views, 1,357 likes, 1,023 reposts and 146 quote tweets.

The claim can be found on Facebook here, here, here, here and here.

Conclusion: Contrary to the viral claim, Asad Qaiser did not refuse to support a resolution condemning Israel’s actions in Palestine until a resolution was passed in favour of former premier Imran Khan during the parliament’s session on 15 March 2024.
