American official did not say all Muslims in Palestinians should be killed

Claim: The video shows an American minister at a press conference saying that all Muslims in Palestine should be killed. In response to this statement, a Muslim journalist from the audience attacked her.

Fact:  The video does not show an American government official announcing that all Muslims in Palestine should be killed only to be attacked by a Muslim journalist in the audience. It actually shows a felon who attacked a judge in Clark County District Court in Las Vegas, Nevada, US. 

On 27 January 2024, a video was shared on X and Facebook with the following caption:  

ایک امریکی وزیر  نے پریس کانفرنس کرتے ہوئے کہا..!

فلسطین کے تمام مسلمانوں کو قتل کیا جائے

میٹنگ میں بیٹھے مسلمان صحافی نے

انہیں “غیرت، دیانت اور شجاعت” کا درس

دیتے ہوئے ایک بہترین گفٹ سے نوازا ..!!

شاباش دہ نر بچہ شاباش آفرین شہ

[An American government official [or minister] said in a press conference, all Muslims in Palestine should be killed. A Muslim journalist sitting in the meeting teaching them “honour, honesty and courage:. Giving the best gift. Well done male child!]

Fact or Fiction?

Through reverse image search, we found that the same video was earlier on 4 January 2024 by Reuters with the headline “Las Vegas judge attacked by felon during sentencing”. 

According to Reuters, the 45-second video shows the inside of the Clark County District Court in Las Vegas, US. The frame of the video is dated 3 January 2024 on the bottom left. The transcription of the video can be read below: 

Attacker: “I figured that if I am in a better place in my life, I am not on drugs, I am not, you know, I am not after committing crimes now, you know, and – “

Judge: “In accordance with the laws of the state –”

At this moment the attacker pounced on the judge in an attempt to beat her up, and the rest of the clip is censored with a beep sound seemingly due to the use of abusive language in the courtroom.

Besides Reuters, the incident was reported by other credible news outlets too. 8 News Now’s report on the incident, published on 4 January 2024 carries the same footage that was shared with the false claim. CNN also published an article with an embedded video of the incident, on 9 January 2024. Reuters also shared the same video on X on 4 January 2024.

On X the claim received over 75,000 views here.

Conclusion: A video does not show an American government official announcing that all Muslims in Palestine should be killed, to then be attacked by a Muslim journalist in the audience.
