Claim: A female student performed a dance that some view as suggestive in front of her teachers at COMSATS University in Islamabad.

Fact: The viral video is from inside a classroom in Amity Unviversity in India and not COMSATS University in Islamabad.

On 24 April 2024, a video went viral on X, with the following caption:

اسلام آباد Comsat یونیورسٹی کے حالات

جہاں ٹیچر قوم کے بچیوں کو تعلیم کم دیتے ہیں اور فحاشی زیادہ سکھاتے ہیں ،

کیا انکے خلاف کوئی بولے گا یا یہ کہ کر ٹال دیا جائے گا کہ یہ انکی اپنی مرضی ہے ؟

[Translation: Islamabad Comsat university status. Where teachers are less interested in giving education but more interested in teaching obscenity. Will someone say anything against this or will this be ignored because it is their will?]

The video shows a female student inside a university classroom dancing in front of a middle aged man sitting on a chair. There is text imposed on the video which says: “Comsat University Islamabad”, and in the background the song Taki Taki by Selena Gomez is playing.

Fact or Fiction?

Through a reverse image search of key frames of the video, we found that it was shared  on Instagram earlier in the year, on 2 February 2024, by social media user @single.sakht. Instead of the text attributing it to COMSATS University, the text on top says, “Amity University for a reason”.

Amity University is in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India.

It was also shared here on YouTube on 25 April 2024 by social media user “kasure haryanvi” with a text label that reads, “Delhi University”.

We spoke to two students from COMSATS University, Islamabad, to find out if they were aware of any such performances taking place on campus and to compare the classroom shown in the video with their university’s rooms.

They told us that the video was not taken at COMSATS, Islamabad. They told us they had already seen the video and discussed it with friends on campus who all concurred that it was not shot inside the COMSATS Islamabad campus.

They also said that if such a performance had occurred on campus, was recorded and published online, the girl would have been suspended and expelled and all students would be informed about it through the university’s internal communication. One student told us that when they do have podiums in classrooms, they have a visible COMSATS logo on it and they are a  darker brown color than the podiums in the viral video..

Soch Fact Check compared photographs from inside the classrooms in Amity University, Delhi University and COMSATS in Islamabad.

We found these photographs of Delhi University from articles published by the Indian Express.

We found these photographs of Amity University classrooms from the university’s website.

The pictures make it clear that the viral video was not shot inside a Delhi University classroom. The Amity University classrooms have podiums as well as light-brown and beige wood furniture and the same blue chairs on black metal legs, as seen in the video. However, while we can conclude that the video was not shot at COMSATS, we cannot confirm that it was filmed at Delhi University.
