Claim: Former IGP KP Ihsan Ghani said, on ARY News, that former CM KP Sohail Afridi ordered him to kill 2 minor boys.
Fact: Ghani did not name Afridi on ARY News. Moreover, he was IGP in 2013 i.e. before Afridi was in the provincial government.
On 22 October 2026, an account on X named Deep State shared a clip from a show on ARY News called ‘Khabar-Muhammad Malick Ke Saath’ where former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ihsan Ghani arrived as a guest. The caption quoted Ghani saying:
“مجھے وزیراعلی KPK سہیل آفریدی نے دو معصوم بچوں کو ماورائے عدالتے مارنے کا کہا تو میں نے انکار کر دیا (KPK سابق IG احسان غنی)“
[Translation: “When KPK Chief Minister Sohail Afridi asked me to carry out the extrajudicial killing of two innocent children, I refused.” — Former KPK IG Ehsan Ghani”.]
Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check first reviewed the entire two minute and 34 seconds-long clip shared in the post being fact-checked to see if Ghani took Afridi’s name. At the beginning of the video, the former officer can be heard saying, “No places, nothing. I was asked by the highest office to kill 2 boys; I didn’t.” He continues to tell the anchorperson about officers who refused to engage in extra judicial killings. Nowhere in the entire clip did he take Afridi’s name.
Furthermore, Soch Fact Check reviewed their complete conversation available on ARY News’ YouTube channel from 23:40 till 36:45. On 22 October 2026, Malick had invited the former IGP KP to discuss the culture of police encounters and their recent rise in the country. Since Ghani vaguely said he got the order from the “highest office”, we looked into the officer’s tenure to confirm if he served during Afridi’s time as CM KP.
At the mark of 23:50, the anchorperson introduces Ghani as former IGP KP, former national coordinator National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and former Director General (DG) of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
Soch Fact Check noted that the former officer, listed as Lt. Cdr (R) Ihsan Ghani on KP Police’s website, served as IGP KP from 16 April 2013 till 24 September 2013. NACTA’s website mentioned him as national coordinator from 21 August 2015 till 2 July 2018. Later, on 30 June 2018, a Dawn article reported Ghani to become the new head of IB who will go on to retire in August 2018; meaning he retired years before Afridi served as CM KP from 15 October 2025 till he was removed from office on 11 October 2026.
Since Ghani did not take Afridi’s name in the original complete footage of the interview, and neither did he serve during his tenure, Soch Fact Check concludes that the claim is false.
Virality
Soch Fact Check first came across a viral post on X with as many as 15,000 views and 56 shares.
It garnered more views on the platform after it received 17,100 and 76,800 views via separate posts.
On Facebook, the claim was shared as a statement post where it received 978 likes and 261 shares.
Conclusion: Former IGP KP Ihsan Ghani did not say former Chief Minister of KP Sohail Afridi ordered him to kill two minor boys. He said he was told to do so by the “highest office” during his tenure as IGP. Since Ghani served as IGP KP in 2013 i.e. 13 years before Afridi was appointed as CM KP, he could not have mentioned his name in the statement.
