Claim: Image shows Pakistani journalist Munizae Jahangir holding a Hermès Birkin bag worth $40,000-$50,000.

Fact: The image is AI-generated.

On 7 October 2026, an account on X named Raja Aatif Zulfiqar shared an image of Pakistani journalist Munizae Jahangir holding a bag that resembled a Hermès Birkin. The caption reads:

“Is that really a Hermès Birkin worth $40,000-$50,000? How can a Pakistani journalist afford a bag that expensive?”

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check first looked through Jahangir’s social media account to see if she had posted the image anywhere herself but couldn’t find anything.

However, a reverse image-search of the picture led to an Instagram blogger’s account named ‘Nimra shah’ who had posted a video on 15 June of the same restaurant seen in Jahangir’s background.

The video included the user’s review of a newly opened restaurant named Zuma – matching the neon signage seen in the background of the image under investigation. The clip also included a shot of the blogger standing at the same place as Jahangir, along with two similar elements in the background, leading us to suspect that the journalist’s image may have been manipulated to create the version being fact-checked.

Similar elements spotted in the background of the original visual and the image under investigation.

We also noticed other visual discrepancies like inconsistent lighting and absence of shadows around the subject which further pointed to the possibility of the image being fake or manipulated in some way. Despite standing next to vibrant blue lights, Jahangir’s face and body are lit with flat, direct studio lighting. Her skin texture also appears to be smooth with an oversaturated, AI-like sheen.

Therefore, Soch Fact Check ran the image through a few AI detection tools, including TruthScan, co-founded by the tech entrepreneur behind Undetectable AI Christian Perry. The tool concluded that the image is “synthetic” and gave it a rating of 97% AI probability.

We also ran the image through OpenAI to check if it was created using the American artificial intelligence company’s tools. It confirmed that the picture had been “generated using OpenAI tools,” as it “found a SynthID watermark that originated from OpenAI”. A SynthID watermark is an invisible logo detected in OpenAI’s verification tool which indicates that the media file (such as an image or audio) was generated using supported OpenAI tools.

Based on the similarity between the image in the claim and the original image of an Islamabad-based blogger, visual discrepancies in the image itself, and the results from AI tools, Soch Fact Check confirms that the image of Munizae Jahangir holding a Birkin bag is fake.

Virality

Soch Fact Check first came across a viral post on X with as many as 46,500 views.

It garnered more views from the platform where it received 427, 543 and 872 views via separate accounts.

Conclusion: Pakistani journalist Munizae Jahangir’s image holding a Hermes Birkin bag is AI-generated.
