On 14 September 2026, X user Zard si Gana posted a social media post claiming an explosion had killed 8 people near the BRICS Summit, with a clip of a BBC broadcast attached. The post is accompanied by the following caption:
“🚨🇮🇳 MASSIVE SECURITY FAILURE IN INDIA! A massive explosion near the BRICS Summit venue in New Delhi killed 8 people and injured several others. India is trying to cover up the incident, once again proving it is not fit to host mega events.”
The BBC clip shows Geeta Guru-Murthy stating there was an explosion near the Red Fort. Reporter Divina Gupta states there was a car explosion heard 2 kilometers off this point and took place at 6:55pm in Old Delhi, that is not cordoned off by local authorities for further investigation, and a high alert was sounded in the nearby state of Uttar Pradesh.

The BRICS cooperation is an intergovernmental coalition that was initially founded in 2009 by Brazil, India and China, with more countries joining the coalition through the years, the most recent being 2025 when Indonesia joined BRICS.The core aim of BRICS is to reshape global governance so that Western dominance is reduced, advocating for greater representation in global organisations. Other core principles are to coordinate economic policy, reduce reliance on the US dollar, and create an alternative financial system.
BRICS does this by promoting trade in local currencies than in the US dollar, establishing alternatives to Western institutions like the New Development Bank (NDB) and Contingent Reserve Arrangement (CRA) Lastly, by pushing for reforms in bodies like the UN Security Council and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

A reverse-image search of a keyframe at the 0:06 mark of the BBC clip led to a video uploaded to the BBC’s YouTube channel on 10 November 2025. This broadcast included a report on an explosion at the Red Fort ten months ago, which killed eight and wounded 20 people. .
Other news outlets also reported the explosion took place at a metro station near the Red Fort and a suspect was arrested in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Social media posts surrounding the alleged Indian security breach were found on all social media platforms, where X post got the most engagement with 30K views.
On Facebook, the video and post got 16K views and 181 likes.
Instagram saw an interaction with 17K views and 191 likes.
Conclusion: There was no explosion near the BRICS Summit. The video attached to these claims dates back to 2025.
