Claim: PML-Q chief and senior politician Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is the incumbent Chairman of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP).
Fact: Brig. Retd. Wajahat Hussain is the president of AFP. The organisation has no chairman.
On 8 September 2026, a Facebook account named PTI Multan shared a video which shows senior politician and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain walking into an event, physically supported by a few people accompanying him. The video was captioned as follows:
” یہ ہیں اسلامی جمہوریہ پاکستان کے ایتھلیٹ فیڈریشن کے چیئرمین”
[Translation: “This is the Chairman of the Athletics Federation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”]
Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check first conducted a keyword search of “Athletics Federation of Pakistan” to see if any official website came up. However, it led to the website of Pakistan Sports Board, an authority under the administrative control of the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination. The website listed Brig (Retd) Wajahat Hussain as the current president of the federation, and did not mention any person with the position of ‘chairman’.
Brig (Retd) Wajahat Hussain listed as AFP’s president on the website of Pakistan Sports Board.
A sports journalist, on the request of anonymity, also confirmed to Soch Fact Check that Hussain is the current head of AFP. To further verify this, we reached out to AFP’s Honorary Secretary Lt. Col. Shahjehan Mir (Retd). He clarified that Wajahat Hussain is the “elected president” and Chaudhry Shujaat has “no links” to the athletics federation.
Therefore, Soch Fact Check concludes that Chaudhry Shujaat is not the president or chairman of the AFP; the claims are false.
Virality
Soch Fact Check first came across a viral post on X with 221, 200 views and 887 reshares. The claim garnered more reach on Facebook where it received 225,000, 5,700 and 13,000 views via separate posts.
Soch Fact Check investigated a similar claim in September 2025, when several social media pages and news outlets falsely reported that the senior politician had been elected as the chairperson of Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation. It was found then that his son Chaudhry Shafay Hussain is the body’s current president, not Chaudhry Shujaat.
Conclusion: PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is not the chairman of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP). The sports body’s current president is Brig (Retd) Wajahat Hussain.
