Claim: A Geo News graphic quotes Mohsin Naqvi as blaming the PML-N government for ‘bloodshed’ in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Fact: The graphic is fake. It has been digitally manipulated using Google AI.
On 4 August 2026, a Facebook account named Syed Irfan Shah shared a graphic of Pakistani channel Geo News which quoted Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi as saying:
“مسلم لیگ (ن) نے آزاد کشمیر میں قتل و غارت شروع کی ہے۔ محسن نقوی”
[Translation: “The PML-N has unleashed a wave of bloodshed and violence in Azad Kashmir. Mohsin Naqvi.”]
Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check tracked down the origin of this supposed quote using one of the three tickers in the graphic under investigation, which, translated into English, reads “Pakistan Economic Summit held in Islamabad”. The minister’s speech during that specific event was shared on the YouTube channels of Geo News, Samaa TV and Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
In the complete version of the speech, posted by Samaa TV and APP, and the excerpt posted by Geo News, Naqvi cannot be heard making any statement accusing PML-N of violence in Kashmir.
Soch Fact Check then compared the graphic under investigation with a screenshot of the original coverage of this speech posted on Geo News using the time, 17:29, and the three specific tickers visible in the graphic.
The original screenshots from Geo News’ YouTube channel and the graphic under investigation showing the same time and tickers, but different statements by Mohsin Naqvi.
Naqvi did not say anything about PML-N being responsible for bloodshed in Kashmir, instead he gave a statement on 30 July, urging political parties to “settle” several national-level issues, including the creation of a new province. Speaking at the Pakistan Economic Summit 2026 in Islamabad, Naqvi asserted that the “only one solution” to improve the country is to take [the matter of] administrative units, provinces or whatever you may call it, to the public.”
Before going on to state that there is no interaction between ordinary citizens and the government, Naqvi also said, “Whether you agree or not, the system we have been living under has collapsed.” His speech was viewed as controversial by some.
Since Naqvi did not make the statement attributed to him in the viral image, Soch Fact Check ran the Geo News graphic through Image Whisperer, an AI-generated content detection tool. According to its verdict, the image is “a digitally manipulated graphic frame rather than an authentic broadcast capture.” It stated that the detectors identified “localised manipulation, edit anomalies and suspicious digital artifacts.”
However, the tool mentioned that further investigation was needed.
Results by Image Whisperer.
Soch Fact Check then ran the graphic through Google’s SynthID Detector to detect the watermark embedded in content generated through its AI model.
The tool detected the watermark in “all or part of the uploaded content.” It also expressed “high” confidence in its result.
Result by SynthID.
The absence of Geo News’ coverage of Naqvi accusing PML-N of bloodshed in Kashmir and results by AI detection tools confirm that the graphic under investigation has been digitally manipulated.
Virality
Soch Fact Check first came across a viral post on Facebook with as many as 401 likes and 142 shares. It was circulated further via separate posts on the platform where it received 153 and 138 likes.
Conclusion: The viral Geo News graphic of Mohsin Naqvi accusing PML-N of bloodshed in Kashmir is digitally manipulated. The channel did not air any such statement nor did Naqvi say anything to this effect during his speech at Pakistan Economic Summit 2026.
