Claim: An FIR has been lodged in Kasur’s Saddar police station against Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl’s (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for sedition.
Fact: The alleged FIR going viral on social media is fake. The Kasur police say no such FIR has been lodged at their station.
On 15 July 2026, a Facebook page named MessageTV shared a post claiming that an FIR has been lodged against Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl’s (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at the Saddar police station in Kasur, Punjab. The caption reads:
مولانا فضل الرحمان پر قصور میں بغاوت کا مقدمہ درج”
میڈیا رپورٹس کے مطابق، قصور کے تھانہ صدر میں شہری محمد اسلم کی درخواست پر مولانا فضل الرحمٰن کے خلاف مختلف قانونی دفعات کے تحت مقدمہ درج کیا گیا ہے۔
ایف آئی آر میں مؤقف اختیار کیا گیا ہے کہ 13 جولائی کو قصور میں ایک جلسے کے دوران انہوں نے قانون نافذ کرنے والے اداروں اور فوجی شہداء کے بارے میں دل آزار اور توہین آمیز ریمارکس دیے۔ مقدمے میں بغاوت سمیت دیگر متعلقہ دفعات شامل کی گئی ہیں۔

According to media reports, a case has been registered against Maulana Fazlur Rehman at the Kasur Sadar Police Station based on a complaint filed by a citizen, Muhammad Aslam, invoking various legal provisions. The FIR alleges that during a public gathering in Kasur on July 13, he made hurtful and derogatory remarks regarding law enforcement agencies and military martyrs. The case includes charges of sedition and other relevant sections of the law.”]
Several other accounts also shared a copy of the alleged FIR against Rehman.

JUI-F Rally in Kasur
On 11 July 2026, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) hosted a rally in Kasur, Punjab where the party’s chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also addressed the crowd. The party posted an excerpt of his speech on their X account where he spoke about the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkwa and Balochistan.
During his address, Rehman made remarks about Pakistani soldiers who were martyred in the line of duty. His statement drew backlash on social media as well as from high-profile officials, including Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal who condemned Rehman’s remarks on their X accounts.
On 15 July, a Lahore resident named Mohammad Waqar filed a petition with National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), seeking action against Rehman for “hurting sentiments” of Pakistani citizens.
Advocate Mudassar Chaudhry appeared on behalf of his client and stated that an application to register a case against the JUI-F chief has been filed with NCCIA, but no action has been taken so far. According to Dawn, Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Latif has sought a reply from the agency by 17 August..
Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check first looked for credible publications reporting on the alleged FIR going viral on social media. However, the results led only to articles about the petition filed by the Lahore citizen.
Then, a closer look at the QR code mentioned in the top-left corner of the FIR led to a news article published on the English website of the Chinese government’s official news agency Xinhua.. The report, titled ‘Pakistan’s anti-terrorism police arrest 17 terrorists in Punjab’, was published on 28 July 2023. It detailed the arrests made by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in various cities of Punjab during intelligence-based operations (IBO).
Another report by Dawn, published on 28 July 2023, quoted an official statement by the CTD that said they conducted a total 132 IBOs in several cities of Punjab including Attock, Dera Ghazi Khan and Gujranwala. During the operation, they arrested six terrorists affiliated with TTP, six with the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), two with Daesh, and the remaining three were members of other organisations, according to the article.
Neither report mentioned details about Rehman or an FIR registered against him.
The dubious QR code in the FIR shared in the claim
As the irrelevant QR code with the FIR seemed dubious, Soch Fact Check reached out to Afzal Ansari, Dawn’s correspondent based in Kasur, for verification. He stated that the police informed him that the FIR is fake.
We also spoke with the public relations officer (PRO) of District Police Kasur. The officer, who requested anonymity, debunked the FIR as fake and shared the district police’s official statement with Soch Fack Check via Whatsapp. It is also posted on the police’s X account.
According to this statement, the fake FIR has been created using “artificial intelligence and other digital tools” as there is no record of its registration in Saddar police station of Kasur.

Soch Fact Check ran the text of the FIR through a few AI detection tools. We first used AI or Not, developed by Bioptic, an American tech company founded by former Google product director Andrey Doronichev. It gave the excerpt a rating of 100%, concluding it “likely contains AI.”

Soch Fact Check also used Phrasly AI, an AI-assisted writing tool founded by a young entrepreneur named Victor Rijo. According to its verdict, the text is “100% likely to be written by AI.”

We also ran the text through an online writing platform named Humalingo that helps humanise AI-written text. It is run by a company based in Lithuania called KrivisAI. It gave the text a score of 94% AI and 6% human, stating that the text has an “AI-like tone.”

Considering the dubious QR code, the official statement by Kasur district police and strong verdicts from AI detection tools, Soch Fact Check confirms that the copy of the FIR against Maulana Fazlur Rehman shared in the claim is fake. Moreover, credible news reports stated that a petition has been filed against the JUI-F’s chief’s remarks at his party’s recent rally, not an FIR.
Virality
Soch Fact Check first came across a viral post on Facebook with as many as 531 likes and 37 reshares. The claim was shared by several other accounts on the platform, with the two most popular posts garnering 1,300 likes and 1,500 likes, respectively.
Conclusion: A copy of the FIR shared in the claim is fake. Moreover, according to the District Police Kasur’s public statement on the matter no such FIR has been lodged against the JUI-F chief.
