Claim: CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz claimed during a speech that her daughter graduated at the age of 13.
Fact: Nawaz did not say this. The caption of the video is false.
On 4 July 2026, a Facebook account named Zahid Khan shared a clip of Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz speaking at the National Conference of Prison Reforms, which was hosted by the Supreme Court on 3 July 2026.
In the 25-second clip, Nawaz says, “My daughter… My youngest daughter who has just finished her graduation was only 13 years-old, and I remember every time she used to walk into the meeting room, she used to leave crying. And as a mother, I know every mother sitting here, every woman sitting here, would identify with that. It was a very difficult time.”
The caption of the video reads:
“میری چھوٹی بیٹی نے جب گریجوایشن مکمل کی تو اس کی عمر 13 سال تھی مریم نواز”
[Translation: “When my youngest daughter completed her graduation she was 13 years-old. Maryam Nawaz.”]
The video was shared with a similar caption across other accounts on Facebook and Instagram.

Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check first noted that Nawaz did not say anything of the sort in the video with the claim, and the caption misquoted her.
We viewed CM Punjab’s complete speech at the National Conference on Prison Reforms, which was hosted by the Supreme Court, shared on Geo News’ YouTube channel. The same speech was also published on the YouTube channels of HUM News, Dunya News, and Nawaz’s party PML-N.
During her speech, Nawaz shared her own experience in prison that had “changed her forever.” From the mark of 6:54 till 7:29, she recalled the time when her daughter would visit her in prison and the pain of separation from her loved ones. Nawaz’s statement is transcribed as follows:
“For someone behind bars, ladies and gentlemen, a meeting with loved ones is not merely a visit. It is often a reminder that life continues beyond prison bars. My daughter… My youngest daughter, who has just finished her graduation, was only 13 years old then. And I remember every time she used to walk into the meeting room, she used to leave crying. And as a mother, I know every mother sitting here, every woman sitting here would identify with that. It was a very difficult time.”
During the speech, Nawaz clearly specified that her daughter, who “has just” finished graduation, was 13 years-old “then” i.e. referring to the time she was in prison. She did not say or imply that her daughter graduated at the age of 13. Hence the caption with the video is false.
