On 25 June 2026, a Facebook account named Javed Iqbal shared a picture of an elderly woman embracing Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi smiling in the background. The caption reads:

Iranian delegation in Pakistan
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan on 23 June 2026. He landed at Rawalpindi’s Nur Khan airbase where he was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
IRNA, Iran’s state media reported that FM Araghchi held talks with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif before Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived on the same day from Tehran.
In a press conference, Pezeshkian said that he held “constructive meetings and discussions” with PM Shehbaz, President Zardari, and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir, Dawn reported on the same day.
He noted that the two neighbours want to use the “existing positive atmosphere” to welcome a new chapter in the bilateral relations between the two countries. “Based on this fact, we stretch our hands of friendship to establish a common understanding and build a new security structure for the countries in the region,” Pezeshkian said, Dawn’s report added.
The Iranian delegation’s visit comes after the country electronically signed the Pakistan-mediated Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Washington on 17 June 2026 to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also confirmed the development as he “acknowledged the leadership of the State of Qatar in helping reach this point.”
Later, delegations from Iran and Washington arrived in Bürgenstock, Switzerland on 21 June 2026 where they agreed to establish a “high-level committee” that would provide political oversight on the mediation.
In a joint statement with the State of Qatar on 22 June 2026, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that a final deal will be reached within 60 days which will determine “immediate commencement of further technical talks.”

Soch Fact Check took its first cue from the Gemini logo in the bottom-right corner of the image and ran it through Google’s SynthID Detector to detect the watermark embedded in content generated through its AI model.

The tool detected the watermark in “all or part of the uploaded content.” It also expressed “high” confidence in its result.

Moreover, there is no mention of FM Araghchi’s mother accompanying him in any of the credible publications. To further verify the picture, Soch Fact Check reached out to Anas Mallick, a journalist who covers Pakistan’s diplomacy and conflict. He is currently working as Pakistan’s Bureau Chief for Asia One News. Mallick gave the following statement on the image under investigation:
“This image is AI-generated. I think the reason behind the circulation of this image is that it fits the narrative criteria of how it has been circulated in the context of US-Iran mediation, and how Pakistan has been playing a facilitatory role. There have been increasing reports of Pakistan siding with Iran. But at the same time, it is clearly AI-generated and it is a fake picture which fulfills a certain audience. It displays how thankful Iranian people are to Pakistan, which they are obviously, but the image does not depict reality.”
The obvious Gemini logo, the result from Google Gemini’s SynthID Detector, the absence of any official credible source of the image, and a comment from a journalist who covered the mediation confirms that the image is AI-generated.

Soch Fact Check first came across a viral post on Facebook with as many as 5,500 likes and 1,100 shares. The claim was picked up by other accounts, and was also widely circulated on X, with one post garnering 109,400 views.
