Claim: A video shows journalist Fareed Zakaria calling Pakistan a “bridge” between South Asia, Central Asia, Middle East, and the wider Muslim world.
Fact: Zakaria has not made any such comments. The audio of the clip is likely AI-generated.
On 14 May 2026, a page on X named Strategic Warfare shared a clip of journalist Fareed Zakaria saying “Pakistan is a bridge between the West, South Asia, Middle East and the wider Muslim world”. The 56- second clip shows him talking about US and Pakistan’s political relationship on his CNN show ‘Fareed’s Take’, and saying:
“Pakistan’s importance is often misunderstood in Washington. It is not merely a South Asian country, it is a bridge between South Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, and the wider Muslim world. At a time when a great power competition is intensifying, the United States cannot view Pakistan only through the narrow lens of the past.
The world has changed. China is expanding its influence. Energy routes are becoming more important. Critical minerals are shaping the future of technology. Afghanistan remains unstable. Iran remains central to regional calculations. In all of these areas, Pakistan has relevance. The future of US-Pakistan relations will not be built on nostalgia; it will be built on interest, and the core interest is simple. America needs stable, capable partners in difficult regions. Pakistan is one of them.”
The clip was also shared on Facebook and Instagram.

Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check visited CNN’s YouTube channel to see if Zakaria said something about Pakistan being a bridge for global politics recently but couldn’t find any such links.
A comparison of Zakaria’s recent video on CNN’s channel and the claim under investigation showed that the former features the presenter talking in a natural style while the other shows him speaking in a robotic tone. His jaw also appears to be rather stiff, raising suspicion that the audio might be manipulated.
Hive Moderation AI-Generated Content Detection Tool gave it three types of ratings:
– 0% likely to be AI-generated video.
– 89.5% likely to have AI-generated speech.
– 10.7% likely to be deepfake.

Results by Hive Moderation
The tool specified that while the video is not AI-generated, the audio is likely to be manipulated.
To further confirm this result, Soch Fact Check tested the audio on Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector using two phrases, “China is expanding its influence” and “Muslim world at a time when great competition is.”
The first phrase showed an authenticity score of 1/100. The tool indicated that the sampled voice is “likely a deepfake.”
The second phrase showed an authenticity score of 3/100, with the tool indicating that this sampled voice is also “likely a deepfake.”

Moreover, Zakaria also shared the clip on his X account and debunked it as fake. He wrote in the caption, “THIS IS FAKE – easy to see it’s AI generated.”
His X post, Soch Fact Check’s own analysis, and the results by AI detection tools all confirm that the video is not authentic as the audio of the clip is likely AI-generated.
Virality
Soch Fact Check first came across a viral post on X with as many as 225,700 views. It was then picked up by multiple other accounts. It was widely circulated on Facebook as well with one post garnering as much as 1,100 likes.
