Claim: US President Donald Trump said, “Who are these Pakistanis? It’s a small country. This puny little country, which has got the atom bomb also, beat the hell out of Indians in this encounter. So who are these folks?”

Fact: This is not a direct quote from Trump;  it comes from a news publication that reported on Pakistani senator Mushahid Hussain’s opinion on Pakistan’s current geopolitical standing with the US.

On 25 April 2026, a user on X(formerly Twitter) posted an image (archive) of US President Trump and Pakistani Field Marshal Asim Munir with the caption:

After meeting Pakistan’s military chief Asim Munir in the White House last year, President Trump asked his team: ‘Who are these Pakistanis? It’s a small country. This puny little country, which has got the atom bomb also, beat the hell out of Indians in this encounter. So who are these folks?’

— President Trump asked his team.”

Fact or Fiction?

A keyword search conducted by Soch Fact Check did not lead to any credible reports that directly attributed this quote to US President Donald Trump. It did, however, lead to a 25 April 2026 article by The Hill examining Pakistan and America’s recent positive change in relations.

This report cited remarks about Trump from Mushahid Hussain, a Pakistani senator from Islamabad Capital Territory, who described the US president’s recent affection for Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir. The publication wrote:

“ ‘Trump loves winners, and he’s impressed,’ Hussain added. ‘He said, ‘Who are these Pakistanis? It’s a small country, and they’ve clobbered the Indians, this puny little country, which has got the atom bomb also, beat the hell out of the Indians in this encounter. So who are these folks?’ ’”

However, the viral Trump quote comes from Hussain’s perception of Asim Munir and Pakistan’s current geopolitical standing with the US. The quote has not been independently verified as a direct statement from Trump, and neither Hussain nor The Hill claims it was a direct quote from Trump. Thus, we find this claim to be misleading.

Virality

Soch Fact Check found on X here, here, and here, with the posts amassing close to a million views.

Conclusion: The viral quote by Trump lauding Pakistan’s military strength and prowess was the opinion of Pakistani senator Mushahid Hussain, and has not been attributed to Trump by any credible news organisation.
