Claim: A video appears to show an Indian army soldier in an interview about the leadership in the Indian army.
Fact: The claim is false. The person being interviewed is not an Indian army soldier.
On 15 April 2026, Facebook user, Ali Asghar Shahid, posted a video captioned:
بھارتی فوج کے ایک افسر نے حال ہی میں میجر گورو آریہ اور دیگر کو آڑے ہاتھوں لیا ہے، یہ دعویٰ کرتے ہوئے کہ ان ک” ‘بہادری’ محض ایک دکھاوا ہے اور حقیقت میں وہ جنگ کے دوران لنگڑے بہانے بنا کر پاک فوج کے سامنے سے بھاگ کھڑے ہوئے تھے۔
“An Indian Army officer recently lashed out at Major Gaurav Arya and others, claiming that their ‘bravery’ was just a show and that in reality they were fleeing the Pakistan Army during the war on lame excuses.”
Soch Fact Check transcribed the interview below:
“When bullets are fired, the intentions of good people change. They remember their children, their wives, their homes. They look for excuses. Some of them were our soldiers, some of them were our officers.
Interviewer: Tell me that too.
Those who ran away in the war.
Interviewer: Is it necessary to say this, too?
I don’t want to name their officers because there were enough of them. They were officers of two Rajputana rifles. The battalion that made big sacrifices.Four of their officers died of Tattoo Raj Rifle. Four officers. This major rank officer. He said, ” Sir, I can’t go for an attack. The commanding officer said, why? He said, ” Sir, I fell in the bathroom, my knee doesn’t work. The commanding officer found out that he was lying. Then he put up his medical board. The board said he was lying. After the war, a court-martial took place of that officer, and he was dismissed from the service.
Some of our officers were like this, and some of the youngsters were like this, that they would mix soap in water. If you mix soap in water and drink it, you will have diarrhea. Their excuse will be that we have got diarrhea, we can’t go for an attack. And would get admitted to the hospital, the field hospital that was in the battlefield.”
It is centred around the Pakistan and India wars that have been on-going for years, criticizing the leadership of the Indian soldiers.
Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check first conducted a reverse-image search to find the original video. During the search, we found footage originating from 2024, as seen below:
Screenshot from Vaad Channel
This one hour and 28 minute interview shows both men who were seen in the Facebook clip. The bio in the screenshot reveals that the man speaking is not a soldier, but a journalist and columnist named Vikram Jit Singh who has covered the Kargil War, and was explaining others’ experiences, not his own.
His X account, Instagram account, and published works lead us to conclude that the caption has been misrepresented, and the claim as false.
