Claim: A video circulating online is claiming to show Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s funeral.

Fact: The video was shared on social media as early as October 2025, and is unrelated. Secondly, the funeral of Khamenei has not taken place yet. Therefore, the claim overall is false.

On 1 March, a video was posted on an Instagram page called Media Dailyyy, claiming to show a final glimpse of Khamenei. It shows a large number of people gathered in what looks like a stadium.

The text embedded in the video says in Roman Urdu: “Ali Khamenei Ki Akhri Jhalak”.
[Translation: Last Glimpse of Ali Khamenei.]

The caption adds:

Today, the world stands stunned as Iran mourns one of its most defining figures — a leader, a symbol, and for many, a reason to stand tall against global pressure — Ali Khamenei is no more. In the silent echoes of history, when nations rose against Iran and storms of politics raged, he was the face of resistance to the world. Now, as the world reacts in shock and sorrow, millions pause to reflect on what was, what is lost, and what tomorrow might bring — a nation in grief, a legacy under debate, and hearts heavy with emotion”

US–Israel strikes on Iran and the retaliation wave

Khamenei was killed in a joint airstrike by the United States and Israel on 28 February 2026, Iranian state media confirmed

The conflict between US-Israel and Iran began on 28 February 2026 when the former launched strikes on targets inside Iran. US officials framed the campaign as necessary to degrade Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities and protect US partners and Israel from what Washington described as an escalating threat.

However, the US lawmakers said the Pentagon told Congress there was no intelligence suggesting Iran was preparing to attack US forces first, complicating the administration’s public rationale for the operation.

Iran responded with retaliatory missile and drone attacks across the region. Coverage described strikes or attempted strikes in multiple Gulf states, particularly those hosting US forces. President Donald Trump claimed 48 Iranian leaders were killed , while Iranian outlets and reporting confirmed the deaths of Khamenei and several senior figures, including key military and security officials.

As the conflict escalated, rights groups and media reports described mounting casualties and extensive damage, including to civilian infrastructure. According to a non-political and non-government organisation, Human Rights Activists News Agency, which is based in the US, more than 1,000 civilians have been reportedly killed in Iran between 28 February and 4 March. The infrastructure damaged during the attacks includes a hospital, schools and historic landmarks. Among them was Shajareh Tayebeh primary school in Minab city of Iran and the compound of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps which was adjacent to it. The area was said to have been struck by multiple simultaneous or semi-simultaneous strikes.

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check reverse-searched the key frames from the video and found that it was posted on Facebook on 18 October 2025 with the caption, “O Allah help the Muslims of Palestine”.

The video was also posted with a different caption by another Facebook user on 2 February.

It was found on Instagram posted in October 2025 by Maktoob Media, an independent news outlet, with a caption stating it shows a gathering in Beirut city of Lebanon of thousands of members of Hezbollah, a political party in the country, to honor Hassan Nasrallah, a Lebanese politician.

The video can also be found as a reel on TikTok from 13 October 2025 without a caption. It was posted under a different context by another account on TikTok. The caption of the later reel says, “Unseen Strength of Sisters in Abayas”. None of the reels mention the location.

Other than this, the final rites for Khamenei have not been conducted yet. His funeral was scheduled for 4 March, but a large number of people have reportedly requested to attend the ceremony and appropriate facilities were needed to accommodate the crowd.

Seeing that the video was shared online well before the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, and the fact that his funeral has not been arranged yet, Soch Fact Check concludes that the video is unrelated. Moreover, his funeral which was originally set to take place on 4 March has been postponed, according to the Tasnim News Agency.
