Claim: While speaking with the media, Aleema Khan said that the PTI belongs to the family, and her nephew, Hassan Niazi, will take over the party if something happens to Imran Khan.

Fact: A review of the original footage revealed that Aleema Khan did not mention anything about party succession. Results from an online detection tool, DeepFake-O-Meter, and ouran audio analysis confirmed that the viral clip is fake.

A video of Aleema Khan talking to the press was shared online with the following caption: “عمران خان کا جانشین صرف عمران خان کا خاندان ہوگا۔ علیمہ خان نے بہت اچھا کیا کہ اس بات کو کھول کر سب کے سامنے رکھ دیا۔ عمران نیازی کی پارٹی صرف نیازی ہی چلائے گا۔ کوئی مروت یا آفریدی نہیں -”

[Translation: Imran Khan’s successor will be only Imran Khan’s family. Aleema Khan did very well by openly putting this matter before everyone. Imran Niazi’s party will be run only by a Niazi. Not a Marwat or Afridi.]

In the clip, she says:

Woh kehtay hain haan hai, khair hai, koi baat nahi. Woh inn cheez ko- Dekhein jail mein aap ho, aap ka kia araam or asaish chahiye. Unko chahiye kitabein. Aur woh khanay pe itni- Humaray gharon mein- Dekhein pata nahi yeh jo bhookay log hain inko khana- inko samjhtay hain- kabhi bhook dekhi hogi. Samjh lein jo khana hai na woh ultimate khwab hota hai inka. Ek din hum murgha khaeinge. Ke murgha khana- mein tou khaati nahi poora poora maheena murgha tou yeh murgha khana jo ek din poora hojata hai tou samjhtay hain saaron ka khwab yehi hai. Sehat ke liye Imran Khan do dafa haftay mein unho ne kaha mein desi murgha banwatay hain. Unka mushaqati hai ek cell uskay paas hai uss mein unkay liyay khana alehda banta hai. Kyun ke high security.”

[Translation: He says, yes, it’s fine, it’s okay, no issue. But these things- look, when you are in jail, what comfort or luxuries do you really need? What he wants is books. And as for food – look, in our homes – these people who are hungry, they think food is- Those who have seen hunger –  food is their ultimate dream. One day we’ll eat chicken. Eating chicken- I myself don’t eat chicken for an entire month, but for them, eating chicken one day seems that it’s everyone’s dream. For health reasons, Imran Khan, he said that twice a week he gets an organic chicken cooked. He has a cell where food is prepared separately for him, because of high security.

She further added:

Humne aaj tak Imran Khan ko ek – kia kehtay hain – ek khajoor bhi nahi hum de sakay apnay paas se. Ek khajoor bhi nahi hum de sakay. Hum kaye dafa wahan jatay thay humaray paas khajoorein hoti hain hum jo khud kha rahay hotay hain, ek khajoor bhi Imran Khan ko nahi di. Haan woh khopra naryal mangwatay hain, woh khatay hain, aur humein woh de detay hain. Wahan se baant rahay hotay hain, humein bhi pakra detay hain. But yeh ghaur se sunein, aaj agar hum unko kuch de detay hain tou kal woh murh ke kehain ke jee jo unho ne khaya tha inko kuch hogaya is liye ke yeh ghar se aya tha. Hum apnay bhai ko kyun zehar dein ge. Party tou waisay bhi iskay janay ke baad humaray paas hi aani hai. Hassan Niazi agla chairman hoga. Hum hi iss party ki qayadat sambhalein ge. Humein kia zaroorat hai zehar denay ki.

[Translation: To this day, we have not been able to give Imran Khan even a single date from our side. Not even one date. Many times we went there, we had dates with us that we ourselves were eating, but we did not give even one date to Imran Khan. Yes, he orders dried coconut or coconut, he eats it, and he gives it to us. He’s distributing it there and hands some to us as well.

But listen to this carefully, if today we give him something, then tomorrow they will turn around and say, the thing he ate made him ill because it came from home. Why would we poison our own brother? The party is going to come to us anyway after he’s gone. Hassan Niazi will be the next chairman. We will take over the leadership of this party. Why would we have any need to poison him.]

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check reverse-searched keyframes of the viral clip to trace the original footage and understand the context of Aleema Khan’s remarks. An extended version of her press talk was shared on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s official YouTube channel on 7 January 2026.

While this video is filmed from a different angle, it matches the viral clip. Aleema Khan can be seen wearing the same attire and speaking to a group of reporters. She was questioned about the facilities and food being provided to Imran Khan at the prison. In response, at 5:40, Khan spoke about the jail facilities and explained that the family does not provide Imran Khan with food. She added that this is done so that the family is not blamed in case his health deteriorates.

The viral clip is taken from 5:40 to 6:59. However, during this segment, she did not mention her nephew Hassan Niazi, who is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted for the 9 May riots. She did not discuss party succession at any point either. Instead, she clarified that while many prisoners in Pakistan receive meals from their families, Imran Khan has a designated jail cook who purchases groceries and prepares his meals within the jail.

Suspecting that the video is manipulated, Soch Fact Check tested the clip through DeepFake-O-Meter, which analysed it using multiple AI-based detection models. The results for the video are as follows:

Deep Fake-O-Meter results

We first used the AVSRDD (2025) model, which is an AVSR-based audio and visual deepfake detection method that leverages speech correlation. The model uses dual-branch encoders for audio and video to support independent detection of each modality. It rated the likelihood of the video being fake at 99.9%.

Next, we used the AltFreezing (2023) model, a deep-learning tool designed to detect fake videos. It works by analysing both visual details and changes to spot signs of manipulation. The model estimated a 88% likelihood that the video is fake.

We then used DSP-FWA (2019), which focuses on detecting deepfakes by identifying face-warping artifacts introduced during the deepfake generation process. It rated the video’s probability of being fake at 86.6%. This model uses digital signal processing (DSP) techniques to spot inconsistencies caused when synthesised faces are resized and blended into original images or videos.

The FTCN (2021) model estimated the video’s likelihood of being fake 90.1%. It focuses on frame-by-frame motion inconsistencies.

The LIPINC (2024) model is a deep learning based method to detect lip-syncing deepfakes by identifying the spatial-temporal discrepancies in the mouth region of deepfake videos. This model rated the video 98.8% fake.

WAV2LIP-STA is designed to catch lip-sync based deepfakes, where the mouth movements don’t quite match the speech. It rated the probability of the video being fake at 95.7%.

Lastly, the video was analysed using the XCLIP (2022) model, which rated the likelihood of the video being fake at 93.9%. This model uses cross-frame attention to analyse how frames relate to each other over time. This makes it good at spotting inconsistencies in facial movements, expressions, and temporal flow, which are common signs of deepfakes.

Given that multiple models, each testing different audio, visual, and lip-syncing aspects, consistently flagged the clip as manipulated with very high confidence, the results indicated that the video is a deepfake.

Audio forensics analysis:

Shaur Azher, an audio engineer at our sister company Soch Videos, examined the viral clip by comparing it against the original PTI footage.

Spectrograms of the viral clip and the original video

  1. Identical audio segment

A direct audio match was identified between the two samples:

A. Sample A: 00:00:00.000 – 00:01:23.298

B. Sample B: 00:05:38.461 – 00:07:02.833

Spectral patterns, temporal energy distribution, and noise floor behavior during this segment

indicate reuse of the same source audio.

  1. Divergence post-identical segment

A. Sample A (00:01:23.298 – 00:01:38.166) exhibits a distinct change in vocal tonality.

B. Dialogue content in this segment does not correspond with Sample B and reflects a different contextual narrative.

C. Monotone delivery observed, inconsistent with earlier matched segments.

D. No sibilance patterns detected, atypical when compared to the speaker’s natural articulation in Sample B.

E. Lip-sync mismatch observed as there was a lack of alignment between spoken phonemes and visible mouth movements.

According to Azher, “dynamic range and frequency response comparisons were not considered determinative, as recordings originated from two different mobile devices, introducing hardware-dependent variance.”

He added that, “Sample A contains a reused authentic audio segment sourced from Sample B, followed by a non-matching segment exhibiting altered vocal characteristics, inconsistent dialogue context, and visual synchronisation anomalies.”
