Claim: A viral video shows former Pakistani premier Imran Khan’s sister, Noreen Niazi, requesting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to carry out Operation Sindoor 2 for Imran’s release.

Fact: The video is doctored. It is from an original interview of Noreen Niazi with India Today when she discussed her brother’s imprisonment and the difficulty the family faced in meeting him.

On 28 November an X user posted a clip from the aforementioned interview, in which Niazi can be seen saying:

Translation: “People say, many policemen say to us, they say that we ourselves, we are with Imran Khan, we everywhere. Let me tell you this is a referendum in Pakistan for Imran Khan and they should not even think about touching Imran Khan because then what will happen to them, they will never in their life be able to understand that. I request Mr Modi here through the platform of your channel that if you now carry out Operation Sindoor 2 only then can Imran Khan get out of jail.”

The X post being fact-checked is accompanied by the following caption in Urdu:

[Translation: “Viewers this time the cat has completely come out of the bag.

Imran Khan’s sister Noreen Niazi has requested India to carry out Operation Sindoor part 2  against Pakistan.

Since the past few days the anarchist movement and friendliness to India were not going on for no reason.

Indian media was covering the PTI protest and Imran Khan’s sisters were spewing venom against Pakistan on Indian channels.

The public of Pakistan has seen the true colours of this fitna party. It has become a security risk for Pakistan.

It has become inevitable to ban this party for the survival of Pakistan.”]

PTI supporters protest over being barred from meeting Khan

Niazi’s interview to India Today and the subsequent manipulated clip from the interview circulated on social media when Khan’s sisters and supporters of his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), began a protest outside Adiala jail over being denied permission to meet their brother. Khan is held captive there and his family members and party supporters have been protesting outside since 18 November over being barred from seeing him.

At the end of October,  Khan had been allowed to meet designated visitors on Tuesday and Thursday each week. The permission was given by the Islamabad High Court, which directed the Adiala Jail superintendent to implement an order it issued in March 2025.

However, Khan’s family members say the visits were never allowed despite court orders. This also led to rumours that he was either ill, being shifted to another jail or that he had died.

On 18 November, Khan’s sister also alleged that they were “violently detained” and manhandled while camping outside Adiala jail.

However, as per a video of Uzma Khanum, another sister of Khan, on PTI USA’s official X page, she was allowed a meeting with him on 2 December.

In the video, Uzma can be seen saying that Khan was physically fit but was angry and told her that he was being mentally tortured. When asked about the duration of the meeting, she said they met for 20 minutes.

The protests have since received widespread coverage within the international media.

The protest outside Adiala Jail is still ongoing and water cannons are being repeatedly used to disperse the protesters. On 17 December, Amnesty International condemned the act in an X post, saying authorities in Pakistan should respect people’s right to peacefully protest and end the use of force.

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check found the original interview given to India Today. We watched the entire video, which was 25 minutes and 52 seconds long, but did not find any instance where Niazi had requested PM Modi to carry out Operation Sindoor 2.

We also searched on social media, typing Noreen Niazi in Urdu and English, for claims alleging that she had requested the Indian premier to carry out Operation Sindoor 2. Results showed that many users had posted the doctored video.
