Claim: An image claims that 50% of the population prefers Maryam Nawaz while 39% prefers Ali Amin Gandapur.
Fact: The claim does not specify that the poll refers only to the population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and not the entire country’s population. The statistics in the image are from a recent Gallup Pakistan poll that was conducted with a sample size of 3000 residents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa only.
On 15 July 2025, a Facebook user posted an image that claimed 50% of the population prefers Maryam Nawaz’s leadership over Ali Amin Gandapur’s. The post’s caption stated in Urdu:
“وزیراعلی پنجاب مریم نواز چھا گئیں 🔥”
This translates to English as:
“Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has dominated 🔥”
The text in the image does not clearly specify the population (“عوام”) it refers to. The post’s caption did not clarify this either. As only the Urdu word “عوام” was used, it made it easy to assume that the image referred to the country’s entire population, adding to the misleading nature of the post.
Fact or Fiction?
We first noticed a small logo of Gallup Pakistan, a survey research agency.
Based on this, we conducted a Google search for “Gallup poll Maryam Nawaz Ali Amin Gandapur”. This led us to the report titled “DETAILED ASSESSMENT OF PUBLIC SATISFACTION WITH GOVERNANCE & POLITICS IN KP” on Gallup Pakistan’s website.
A review of the report confirms that the study covered a sample of 3000 residents in Khyber Pakhtunwa only, with whom “face-to-face survey[s]” were conducted. Moreover, the statistics displayed in the image were correct. 50% of respondents did consider Nawaz’s performance as chief minister more successful than that of Gandapur’s. This can be seen on page 194 of the report:
The third statistic quoted in the image—that, of the PTI voters from the respondents, 37% believed Nawaz was performing better than Gandapur—was also correct.
Hence, the image in the claim provides accurate statistics, but it does not clarify that they were quoted from this specific poll by Gallup Pakistan which was conducted in KP, thereby making it misleading.
Virality
The post on Facebook has amassed 1.2 K reactions and 482 comments.
Conclusion: While the image in the claim quotes accurate statistics from a Gallup Pakistan survey, it does not clarify that the survey represents a sample of residents from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa only. It does not represent the opinions of the whole country’s population.
