Claim:  A video shows Shakira was recognized in a local market in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Fact: The video shared in the claim is from Morocco in 2011. Moreover, there is no evidence to suggest Shakira has ever been to Pakistan.

On 8 July 2025, X user Kalorie posted a video of Colombian singer Shakira writing, “Shakira gets recognised in a local market in Islamabad, Pakistan. Oh queen of Asia. 💙”

It shows Shakira wearing a scarf on her head in a crowded marketplace.

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check conducted a reverse-image search using key frames from the video and found several videos posted by fan accounts in 2011 of Shakira at the marketplace. These videos all noted the location of the video as Morocco.

One of the videos posted by the YouTube account “0Shakira” was shared with the title “Shakira Tour Blog: Morocco”. The video starts with what looks like a title card, which includes a shadow cut image of the singer with the text “19 Morocco” written beside it. Suspecting that this was a title card posted by Shakira’s official channels, Soch Fact Check conducted a reverse image search of the image, which led us to a video posted on the singer’s official YouTube page.

The vlog posted on 26 July 2011 was titled “Shakira Tour Blog: Morocco”. According to the video’s description, the “video blog from Shakira’s current tour shows her recent trip to Morocco, beginning with Shak’s trip to the markets in Marrakech, then showing her show in Rabat.” The viral claim seems to have clipped a video from the vlog from the timestamps 3:28 to 4:07.

The video itself provides evidence that the Latin singer was not in Pakistan, as she is seen conversing with the public. Within the first three seconds of the viral video, she is seen saying “thank you merci,” the French word for thank you. While French isn’t a spoken language in Pakistan or Colombia (Shakira’s country of origin), it is a widely spoken language in Morocco, with almost 33% of the population speaking the language.

Additionally, Soch Fact Check found no news reports, tour vlogs by Shakira, or fan posts suggesting that the singer has ever been to Pakistan.

Virality

Soch Fact Check found the claim on X here, where it has garnered 18,000 views.

Conclusion: The video in the claim is from Shakira’s 2011 trip to Morocco. The pop singer was not in Pakistan, nor was she recognized in an Islamabad market.
