29 October 2020: The government tables The Constitution (26th) Amendment Act 2020, which seeks to amend Article 226 of the Constitution to allow for open ballot in the Senate elections. The aforementioned article states that: “All elections under the Constitution, other than those of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister, shall be by secret ballot.” The amendment act recommends that the words “Senate, the” be added between “of the” and “Prime Minister”. The act is referred to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice for further consideration before being presented to the assembly for a vote.
